February 22, 2006 | Madison Square Garden| Miami HEAT - 103 | New York Knicks - 83
HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley
On the game:
“We moved the ball real well tonight, had some guys step up and we got the win. Dwyane (Wade) is getting hammered harder than I’ve seen in awhile so we need other guys to make shots.”
On the Knicks:
“I like all their young players. They need to get some veterans to keep building.”
On fouls:
“Dwyane (Wade) is getting hit pretty hard so they are fouling him. The double harm on Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal) is absolutely ridiculous. We all know the rule. He’s quite frankly tired of it. He can’t move and nobody would be able to.”
HEAT Center Shaquille O'Neal
On the Heat making a move before the trading deadline:
“I don’t know anything about the trade deadline but the team is coming together.”
On throwing the ball at Malik Rose:
“He had done something dirty and he knows he did. He was out there flopping.”
HEAT Guard Dwyane Wade
On the game:
“Now I just try to go out there and just play. No question I am getting hit. I feel, at times, people are taking shots at me. It is part of this game. If I go there I expect to get hit, but of course you get fed up with it.”
On coming together after the All-Star break:
“Our continuity is still good. Of course, there was a little rust. We had a lot of anxiousness. There is a lot of rust but guys played with a lot of energy.”
New York Knicks Head Coach Larry Brown
On tonight's game:
"The game got away from us during the first two minutes. We cut it to ten, had the ball, and then had a turnover. Then Zo (Mourning) came in and made about four or five great defensive plays. We got into such bad foul trouble. We never really got into the bonus the whole game. That's key when you're struggling. You have to come down and figure out a way you can get the ball inside, get a foul, or get a second shot. We never had that opportunity."
On Stephon Marbury:
"Physically he got tired, but he tried. I'm glad he got to play. He'll get a practice in tomorrow. I don't think he took any hits. When you haven't played in a while and you're coming off a layoff on top of that, its bound to effect you."
On Steve Francis:
"We have to figure out a way to establish him. Steve's a good post-feeder and he's great with the pick-and-roll. He's a good defender and he can rebound the ball effectively. That's where he can help us defensively. We need dribble-drivers and I think Steve can do that as well."
Knicks Forward Channing Frye
On acquiring Steve Francis:
“I think it is going to be good for us. I am sad to see some guys go, but we just needed to focus tonight. Things didn’t go our way. They executed. They are one of the best teams in the league. We have to tip our hats to them.”
On tonight’s game:
“Regardless of the score, I think we competed. They hit open shots like any good team does. The ball just dropped for them. We wanted them to shoot jumpers and they hit them.”
On the Miami Heat:
“I can’t worry about what they are doing. I need to worry about what I am doing and what my teammates are doing. I need to worry about how we are going to get better which will be through hard work, perseverance and execution.”
On playing the Nets on Friday:
“It is another game. Welcome to the NBA. We have to focus on them. They are another great them. It is a test for us.”
Knicks Guard Stephon Marbury
On his return:
“It felt good to be back.”
On acquiring Steve Francis:
“I think it is good. It adds another player that can play. We have two explosive guards. We have two guards that can score at anytime.”
On improving:
“We need to put a foundation down and play more consistent. We are not doing that.”
