December 27, 2005 | AmericanAirlines Arena| Miami HEAT - 109 | Milwaukee Bucks - 98

HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley

On the Game:
“At halftime we talked about just one thing, we gave them one number, that number was they (Milwaukee) get one hundred points and they win ten out of eleven games. I’m not saying we couldn’t have beaten them if they got one hundred, but we had to keep them under. We had to buckle down, and I thought in the second half especially in winning time, that period in the fourth quarter, when we had to make stops, we made some tough stops. All the perimeter guys were up playing their guys, Dwyane at the other end of the court doing his thing, so from that stand point I thought the defense really got the message when it counted.”

On looking forward to the next games:
“Maybe the players do, but I don’t. I think we try to focus. They know Detroit is coming up, it’s a big game. They (Detroit) got the best team in the league right now, but we just try to focus on tonight.”

On Dwyane Wade’s play:
“Finally I’m getting a little bit of a handle on the whole mechanism of how to get him, and when to get him, and when to let him handle, and when to let him come to it. In the beginning I was running him off all these screens and getting him tired. There are times when you have to cut through all this stuff. I’m getting better with his package but most of what he did tonight was pure talent. A couple of those dunks had nothing do with anything else other than him. We are blessed to have him.”

On Shaquille O’Neal’s play:
“I thought he was good tonight. We upped his workload at practice. We worked on his mobility, his feet, leveraging against real power defenses. We try to take one hundred jump hooks, a hundred turn-a-rounds. I think he made a couple of jump hooks tonight and a couple turn-a-rounds. He’s got to make those shots. You can’t always power it. He’s got to get it up over the top of the defender. We just need to keep working with him and I think the more game time he gets and the better game shape he gets in, he’ll get more efficient.”

HEAT Guard Shaquille O'Neal

On the defensive play of the team:
“We are getting a little bit better. Right now we are just focusing on when we get people down, to keep them down. Right now we are giving up big leads. We are still a young team. We’re going to be fine.”

On his play tonight:
“I was running the court very well, getting the ball and making the aggressive move. I’m still missing two or three jump hooks that I don’t usually miss. I’ll get it back.”

On his left hand:
“I was actually born left handed but every other kid was right handed so I had to teach myself how to become a right hand player. Every time I use the left hand I look at it like it’s alive, it’s alive.”

On the play of Jason Williams and Dwyane Wade:
“They played great. They are going to get a lot of open shots. They shot the ball well and are very unselfish players. As long as they can keep on a roll like that for the rest of the season, we’ll be fine. They are great team players.”

HEAT Guard Dwyane Wade

On the game:
"I approached the game differently by coming out and focusing on getting my teammates the ball. That is something I want to continue to do. I want to open things up and get my teammates the ball. Then I will start looking for my offense. Tonight, Coach did a good job of getting me the ball in my sweet spots. Hopefully, I will continue to not only score for myself but make plays when I have the ball. Tonight was my best game in a while, but I was most proud of the outcome of the game.”

HEAT Center Alonzo Mourning

On the game:
“Our focus is getting better. We have to get better as a team. We have to get better defensively, we have to execute better offensively and we have to take care of the ball. In this game, the team that makes the least mistakes and the team that has the stronger effort, will come out victorious.”

Bucks Head Coach Terry Stotts

On the Game:
“I thought our effort was good. Defensively, I think we let Dwyane Wade get to the basket too much, and put us in foul position. He’s a talented player and causes a lot of problems. You put Shaq down there as well and it’s hard to get stops. We are a perimeter shooting team, and I think the shots that we were getting would be shots that we would make. There was a stretch there that we kept pushing it and coming up empty. It takes a little wind out of your sails.”

“Our guys were frustrated in the second half. There were a few instances with our guys going in and not getting calls.”

“You don’t want to take consolation in losses, but we competed against a good team on their floor.”

On T.J. Ford’s injury:
“It is a mild foot sprain. He had X-rays. The X-rays were negative. He’ll go in for an MRI tomorrow.”

On Maurice Williams:
“[Maurice] has been a valuable player for us all year. He has a lot of confidence on the offensive end, and he’s improved on the defensive side since last year. He’s a big part of what we do.”

Buck's Maurice Williams

On his performance:
“It doesn’t mean anything because we lost. What I did tonight felt like it wasn’t enough. You can’t go away feeling good. My teammates did a great job of finding me when I was open. I just try to knock them down when I could.”

Buck's Ervin Johnson

On the performance of Shaquille O’Neal:
“He’s still tough to guard. He’s still the dominant player he was in the past. We have a lot of bodies and we have to start wearing him down as much as we can. We try to make him take tough shots away from the basket.”

On the disparity of fouls:
“It’s going to happen. Sometimes fouls go towards you and sometimes they go against you. They’re going to balance each other out. There was some frustration but not so much with the fouls, we are not playing the way we are capable of.”

On the performance of Dwyane Wade:
“He’s a great player. He knows how to play the game and he’s got the big guy down there that makes you play him honest. If you don’t play Dwyane honestly they’re going to throw the ball to Shaq.”
