October 22, 2004 | Philips Arena | Miami HEAT - 113 | Atlanta Hawks - 82

HEAT Head Coach Stan Van Gundy

"I like the way we executed tonight. I wanted to make sure we played a lot of guys tonight. We were able to get some minutes for Zhi-Zhi and others with some of the better guys. I didn’t want them to just finish the game, but I wanted them to get some quality minutes. I wanted them to get the chance to play with Shaq and Dwayne and get them some time.

“I thought we had a lot of positive things tonight.

“Shaq’s a pretty good player, that’s one thing I noticed (laughs). The only thing I didn’t like was when he let (Jason) Collier catch the ball low in the fourth quarter and allowed him to shoot that jump hook, but other than that, he did another fine job for us.”

HEAT Guard Dwyane Wade

"We are still adjusting to each other but by the time the season gets here we will be ready."

“In preseason we are looking for constant effort to get better all the time as a team offensively, defensively, and individually.”

On being a contender in the Eastern Conference:
“Our chances are good, at home we are going to be pretty good, and Shaq gives us a chance to win every night. We have a chance to be one of the powerhouses in the East.”

HEAT Center Shaquille O'Neal

“We’re getting better, I tell the guys we just have to get better every day. We just need to go out and play hard every night. Dwayne had a very good game. I like this team and I like the way we are playing and developing.”

Hawks Mike Woodson

"From a coaching standpoint and from a player standpoint we cheated our fans. We didn’t come out and make a commitment to make a full effort, and that is unacceptable. We have to go back tomorrow, regroup, watch the game tape and see what went wrong. Yes, this is exhibition season but if you’re competitive you don’t lose by thirty. I know I was playing a lot of young guys but the game had gotten out of hand when the veterans we’re playing and that was kind of discouraging. They’re team played harder, they wanted it more and we didn’t respond.”

“I think Shaq (O’Neal) is the best player in our league. He’s the most dominant guy, he’s been that way for many years. You try to combat him by playing hard and that is about all you can do.”

Hawks Guard Kenny Anderson

“Not a lot went well tonight. We didn’t execute, didn’t make shots…it was a tough night. Tomorrow night, we’ll have to shake it off and come out with a better effort. It is the preseason, but our defense wasn’t where it needed to be. We’re still trying to get used to each other and come together as a team. It will happen but it might take a little time.”

Hawks Guard Boris Diaw

“Obviously we didn’t play well defensively. Shaq (O’Neal) was tough down low and they made shots from outside. Everything they put up seemed to go in. We’ll get better but tonight was their night. I wish we could have given the fans a better game. Hopefully we can do better in Memphis tomorrow.”
