November 4, 2003 | SBC Center | Miami HEAT - 73 | San Antonio Spurs - 80

HEAT Head Coach Stan Van Gundy

On the game:
"It was an ugly game. That was to be expected. That was pretty predictable. They just forcefully attacked us. They killed us with fast break points and second chance points and free throws; they went to the line 41 times. Foul trouble was a huge part of tonight. At times we had both Eddie Jones and Brian Grant in foul trouble. That was the key to the whole thing."

On Brian Grant:
“I thought he battled on the boards and he is always going to give you a battle. He is always going to give you a pretty consistent shot to; tonight going 1 of 11; that is just one of those nights. I’m not overly concerned with that.”

HEAT Forward Lamar Odom

On being winless:
"Of course you are going to be frustrated. There is enough talent on this team and we work too hard to be winless. All that you hear about the Heat and how hard we run and work in practice is true. It’s early, we are frustrated but we are not going to give up so easily."

HEAT Forward Brian Grant

On not looking ahead:
"I’m not even thinking about Saturday right now. I am stuck in the moment till tomorrow. The only thing that matters right now is that we lost. To us a win is a win and a loss is a loss, it does not matter."

Spurs Assistant Coach P.J. Carlesimo

On the game:
"I thought last night’s game was similar to tonight in that we played hard. The defense was battling on the boards. It was a great defensive effort. It’s all about defense and rebounds, that’s what Pop told the guys this afternoon. If you do that the other end will take care of itself. We did the best job we have so far this season taking care of the ball and we made our free throws late."

On coaching the game:
"It’s always good to get a chance to coach in this league. It’s a privilege. It was a collective effort between the four of us. It was a lot of suggestions and ideas. All the coaches did a good job."

Spurs Guard Manu Ginobili

On the game:
It felt really good to get the win. We didn’t care as much about how we played as whether we got the win after the loss yesterday. Even if we didn’t play well at all, it still feels good to have the “W”. It wasn’t the best looking game but we still came out on top; that’s what we can pull out of this game. The Lakers are going to be really tough; they would be with Tim (Duncan) and Tony (Parker) able to play. We have a tough job but I think it’ll be a good game."

Spurs Forward Kevin Willis

On the stage of the team this week:
"I was going through game notes on the road and saw that I was close to 17,000 points but I forgot about it until after the game. Somebody pointed it out to me and now that I know I got it, it feels great. It’s a lot of points. It’s a result of all the years of hard work and perseverance. It’s just a great feeling. I never thought I’d play this long. I always thought I’d play ten to twelve years and be done. I’m just thankful for the chance to play this many years. I like being out on the court and doing what I can to help the team win. Tonight was an opportunity for me to go out and play my game and help the team get the win."
