Celtics Head Coach Jim O’Brien
On the game:
“It was a great game and a close game. It is always nice to win that type of game. They
(Miami HEAT) played really scrappy basketball and I thought their guys played really hard
the entire game. Considering this is our fourth game in the last five days, I believe that
we competed to win. We did what we had to do to win down the stretch and to get the victory.
Generally speaking, we did a great job of moving the basketball and really played unselfishly.
We were able to pass the ball to the open man and the shots went down.”
On the 4th quarter:
“We did some things in the fourth quarter that were out of the scheme of the way we normally
play. We let them break out a couple of times. Then, we took some bad shots and failed to be
consistent at both ends of the basketball court. I think you need to be consistent at both ends
of the basketball court to be a good basketball team.”
Celtics Guard Paul Pierce
On the game:
“We executed, we stopped their run. They made a good run and tied the game up. From that point
on, we executed well, we passed and moved the ball well, and got the fouls.”
On the 4th quarter run:
“They made a good run, and got the crowd back into it. You want to settle down and keep them
out of transition, and don’t let them get any exciting plays. You have to get a good shot off
every time down the floor, you can’t turn the ball over, and you have to be solid on defense.”
“They went with a smaller line-up and took us out of our offense for a quick second. They
picked up full court and it was just a matter of settling down and executing.”
Celtics Forward Antoine Walker
On the game:
“We had a lot of opportunities, we were up 10 and we let the game slip away from us. We took
some bad shots in that stretch, but then we got back to moving the ball and was able to win
the game. We were able to come up with defensive stops and not have to rely on our offense.
It was a good win. We control our own fate to keep the sixth spot. We got the win tonight,
now we got one left on Wednesday night.”
On the second half:
“We have to stick with the bread and butter, sometimes we get pulled away from what we do well.”
“We just have to play hard. Riley had all the young guys playing and they were trying to
impress him. They played well, they played hard, you have to give them credit. We expected
that though, they are a very tough team. They gave us trouble all year.”
Celtics Guard Tony Delk
On the game:
“We’ve been in a lot of tough games, losing by one. These close games give us good experience
going into the playoffs. We just have to finish them and I think we did a good job tonight.
We just have to build off this particular win tonight.”
