Postgame Quotes - Hawks vs. Bucks - Feb. 28, 2010

(Learning from the Dallas loss): “Our guys made the plays down the stretch, that we needed. We got stops, key rebounds, and then Joe took over the game coming down the stretch with big stretch after big stretch. I thought it was a total team effort. You’ve got to grind in a game like this. This team had been playing very, very well, and they played well again tonight. They pushed us into overtime. We had a chance to win before overtime, but Joe didn’t knock it down. But he came through big time for us in overtime.”

(On Josh Smith): “He’s been playing great all season, but since the All-Star break he’s been phenomenal. We’re going to need him to continue to play that way, as well as everybody else. I know what I’m going to get when they step out there. We’re not there yet, but we’ve got to keep pushing to get there.”

(On the end of regulation): “The shot was for Joe to take it, to run down there and get the best shot available. I thought he could have put a little more heat on Salmons (because of) the fact that we were in the penalty, but he settled to shoot the jump shot. But the bottom line is that we got the last shot. The clock ran out and they didn’t get the chance to return the favor. In overtime they jumped out 5-0, but we held our composure, kept fighting, and we started making some shots, and that was the difference in the ballgame.”

(On second half defense): “Our plan coming in was to be physical with Bogut. He’s a great center, he can score the ball really well. I just wanted to make sure that I showed him different stuff and I really made him earn everything he got.”

(On learning from Dallas loss): “I think last time we got a little discouraged (in overtime) when we blew the lead. But it’s all about learning and being better.”

(On getting a win before going on the road): “It’s really important to handle our business at home. We had another thrilling game in Chicago where we lost in overtime, so we know it’s going to be a big challenge up there.”

(On bouncing back from loss to Dallas): “It definitely felt good. Playing against a great Milwaukee team that’s been hot as of late, we were still able to get the win.”

(On snapping Milwaukee’s win streak): “It’s just nice to get a win, period. We really needed this one to get our confidence back going. We need to keep playing together as a team, tighten up on the defensive end a little bit, and keep sharing it offensively.”

"We got two out of three on this trip, which is pretty good. It’s also disappointing (to finish with a loss). We went up five in overtime, and that’s where you’ve got to be smarter than that. We crowded Josh Smith on the perimeter, but he still drove in and made a basket. We made two or three other mistakes that really cost us.”

“We had 16 turnovers, which isn’t extraordinary, but they led to a lot of points for them. We had fast break opportunities in the first half, and we threw the ball out of bounds. We also missed some plays late that cost us, too.”

"This definitely doesn’t feel good at all. It feels like we gave this one away. It felt like we definitely had our chances to win, but we just didn’t pull it off, so it’s definitely disappointing. We have to keep our heads up, and keep focused on the end results, and know that we can play with anybody. This is potentially a team that we could see in the playoffs. If a couple of bounces go our way, we win that game.”
