  • Thrashers, Hawks Launch School Assembly Program

    The Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers have initiated a comprehensive school assembly program that serves elementary and middle schools in the metro Atlanta area with a focus on reading and learning through sports.

    Content for the elementary school program will feature the Hawks' successful Fast Break for Reading initiative. Geared towards a younger audience, Hawks and Thrashers staff, dance team and mascots present the program that encourages students to read and develop a life-long love for reading.

    The middle school program features sports-themed curriculum and lesson plans. Hawks and Thrashers staff use the elements of hockey and basketball to make traditional subjects such as history, science and math more engaging. The program is infused with interactive Q&A, prizes and an exciting video featuring Hawks and Thrashers players.

    School Assembly Highlights:

    Thrashers' Eliot speaks at Atha Road
    Thrashers TV analyst Darren Eliot talked about the importance of reading to over 600 students in a pair of assemblies at Atha Road Elementary School in Monroe, Ga., on Nov. 8, with help from his friends, Sky Hawk and Thrash.



    Hawks and Thrashers visit Cedar Grove
    The Atlanta Thrashers and Atlanta Hawks visited Cedar Grove Elementary School in Ellenwood Georgia on Friday, November 5 for a successful Fast Break for Reading School Assembly.

    SkyHawk, Harry the Hawk travel to Canton
    Atlanta Hawks mascots, SkyHawk and Harry the Hawk participated in a Read to Achieve assembly at Tippens Elementary School in Canton , Ga. on Thursday, Oct. 27 ... The duo promoted reading to over 250 students while providing plenty of entertainment.





    Assembly Program at Candler Elementary
    Harry the Hawk and Sky Hawk visited Murphy Candler Elementary School in Lithonia Georgia to present a newly re-vamped Fast Break for Reading program on October 22.     School Assembly Program Kicks Off
    The Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers school assembly program kicked off Oct. 18 with a visit to E. Rivers Elementary in Buckhead. Thrashers broadcaster Billy Jaffe led the assembly that taught more than 400 students about the importance of reading. Hawks mascot, Sky Hawks and members of the Hawks dance team were also on hand to entertain the students. The teams' assembly program serves elementary and middle schools in the metro Atlanta area, and uses a fun and interactive presentation to encourage kids to read and learn.
