Remembering Jason Collier
The Atlanta Spirit family is saddened to report the sudden passing of Hawks
center Jason Collier, 28, on the morning of Sat., Oct. 15.
“Jason and his family are first and foremost in our prayers during this
difficult time,” said Hawks Executive Vice President and General Manager Billy
Knight. “Jason was a devoted family man who deeply loved his wife Katie,
daughter Elezan (Ella), his parents and siblings. He was also a tremendous
friend to the Hawks employees who spent time with him, and a hard-working and
dedicated teammate to many NBA players over his five seasons in the league. We
will truly miss Jason’s personality and his spirit, and he will be in the
thoughts and minds of our team and organization forever.”

There has been a great outpouring of support for Jason, and we thank everyone who has written in to share their feelings.
Here is a sampling of what you had to say:
My name is Harvey Catchings, a former NBA player and education counselor with the NBA/NBPA. I had an opportunity to work with Jason when he was here in Houston with the Rockets. One of the things that I will always remember about Jason......His comedic tone about life. He was truly committed to excelling both on and off the court. It was important that he finished his degree and also make sure that he provided for his family. I remeber pinning him down about when he was going to finish his degree and his answer was, I will get my degree when I get back to the Atlanta area.......! I know that he will be sorely missed by family and friends, but God said that he has provided an incredible number of happy moments on earth.......Now I want him here with me, so I can hear some the jokes that he told here. God bless you all, family and friend. All I ask is that you secure a place for yourselves in heaven, so that you will once again commune with him.........Be Encouraged

Dear Collier family,
I would like to send my deepest condolences to Katie, Ella and the entire Collier family. Jason will be remembered first of all as a very good person.
We all can learn from Jason how to be a good person.
I will pray to God that He will help you in these difficult times.

My husband has been a fan of Jason's since he was at IU, and therefore, I've heard a lot about his game and also about what a wholesome, classy, good guy he is. The NBA needs more Jasons. I was so sorry to hear about his death and can only imagine the suffering that his family is going through. To his wife and daughter, my thoughts are with you on losing your husband and father. I wish you every good thing in getting through this.
A fan in Chicago
To Jason's family and friends,
Our prayers and thoughts are with you in this very difficult time. Jason will be missed by his fellow players and coaches very much. Its definitely hard to lose someone we've seen in NBA games giving it his all.
We Love You Jason
Alicia
Hello,
Long time fan sorry to hear, but he is in a better place playing with some of the best old school basketball players in heaven.
Keep your head up and take care.

I am truly, and deeply sorry for the loss of Jason!!!
Angel
When you think of the ones you love,
You see them smiling and laughing,
They look like angels from above.
And deep into your heart,
They truly are angels,
That's why this is the hardest part.
Tear stained faces all around,
Another young like,
We lay into the ground.
Everyone keeps asking why,
"Why did this happen to our angel,
He was too young to die".
God had greater things in mind,
For this special angel,
So the answer to "why" we'll never find.
So for now all we can say,
Is "Angel we'll be missing you,
Until we meet again someday".
My wife and I want to send our heart felt condolences to the Collier family. We obviously did not know him, but from reading about him he sounds like a tremendous person who will be greatly missed.
Our prayers and thoughts go to his wife, daughter, and family.
May God bless his family and the Hawks organization during this difficult time.
Sincerely,

Hello family of Jason;
I am a nurse at children's healthcare of atlanta and I met Jason at our annual summer games this year and he was so good with the kids. I know they will cherish the memory of that day forever and he is definitely a bright spot in my memory here at Children's. i hope that you all know that he will be remembered always to all that met him and he was a great guy.
Thanks for sharing him with us

He was such a kid playing with our special kids at the Summer Games. I will remember him as the caring, cute, smiling young man playing in the hot sun. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Katie and Family,
My heart is broken for you. Jason was a wonderful human being. He was so proud when he would to talk about you and Ella. Those nights on Todd's Dock, playing guitar, singing horrible renditions of songs, and sharing some great stories. I will cherish them. He was a good man. NBA players should look to him as their role model. Know that he is surrounding you with his spirit. And that God has given him eternal life. We will see you again Jason. Thanks for your friendship!
Alex
I had the privelege of having Jason's mom Joyce as my kindergarten teacher in Springfield, OH. My mother still teaches with her and I will always remember when I found out that Jason had passed away. My heart goes out to Katie, Ella, Jeff, Joyce, Julie and Jared, your husband, father, son and brother will be missed, and his family and the families he has touched will forever be changed.

Though I did not know Jason personally, I could tell the type of man that he was. Picture this:
As I sit at the top of the bleachers on a cold, rainy Friday night for a homecoming game, I realize that the man sitting in front of me had to be at least 7 foot tall. This was Jason. He was attending a homecoming game to watch his younger brother Jared play varsity football. He didn't leave early to beat the rush or get out of the rain, he waited until the game was over so he could congratulate his brother. When the game was over, he stood up and began to walk off of the bleachers. Many high school and junior high basketball players had been admiring him from afar during the game, and saw this as an opportunity to meet the gentle giant. They came up and Jason welcomed them as he had known them all his life. He was joking, shaking hands, and giving "high" fives to these complete strangers, all while holding his sleeping daughter in his arms.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Collier family and to all who knew him.

As a fan of basketball in general, it always hits hard when you learn of someone with the class and selflessness of someone like Jason ( much like Bobby Phills and Malik Sealy before him) passes away. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the entire basketball community. RIP #40
I am fortunate to have known Jason since he was in junior high. I am also a graduate of Springfield Catholic Central, where I played Basketball a few years a head of Jason. I have enjoyed watching Jason grow over the years athletically. Jason was a very impressive basketball player, but more importantly he was an impressive human being. I will remember Jason most, not for delivering a much sought after State Basketball Championship to my alma mater, but for always having a smile on his face, and treating everyone with respect and kindness. I am proud to have known Jason, he was able to touch so many lives, in so many different ways. I regret that I did not get a chance to let him know how much pride I had in him, in the way that he represented our school, and our hometown. The world did not lose a basketball player, we lost a great member of our society at large. Thanks for all of the memories.
Ryan M, Dayton Ohio
My deep condolences on the passing of Jason Collier. I am from Springfield, Ohio and our entire community is shocked and saddened by his unexpected passing.
Our prayers are with his wife, daughter and family.

I want to send my regards to the Collier family for their loss. I also want to thank Mr. Collier for giving me hope as a Hawks fan by playing so hard when the team was an embarassment to watch many nights. Ever since he joined the Hawks, Jason showed fight no matter the odds. He would often be dunked on by Shaq and while that was depressing, it was encouraging to know that we had a center who had enough stones to stay in there and fight it out consistently with the most powerful player in the NBA. THAT is what will stay in my mind about Jason Collier: a man who did not run away from responsibility and who understood it enough to assist those who might have trouble while walking alongside him. Hawks players, stand up and smile for your brother because it's apparent that he would stand up for you.

Im a 15 year old hawks fan and all i want to do is offer my condolences to Mrs. Collier and her daughter. This is a sad day in hawks history and the NBA will deeply miss Jason Collier.
Rest In Peace Mr. Jason Collier
Sincerely,

I would like to send my sincere condolences to the Collier family. I met Jason during his senior year at Catholic Central High School. I was a huge basketball fan and enjoyed watching Jason play his senior year before going to Indiana. He was a bright young man with a great future ahead of him. Jason was a great role model for students and athletes. After meeting him briefly after a game, I asked him to come to Xenia, Ohio to speak to students in my 6th grade D.A.R.E. Class. He accepted this offer with a great deal of enthusiasm. He visited Xenia on two occasions to meet with my D.A.R.E. Classes. Jason was a very humble young man that really wanted to make a difference on and off the court. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to meet Jason. I can only imagine how many people Jason touched with his kindness during his lifetime. My heart and prayers go out to all of Jason’s friends and family.

My wife and I would like to send our deepest condolences to Katie and Ella.
Your husband and father was a great man. His generosity and kindness touched everyone he met. We were lucky enough to be one of those people and want to thank you for the time that both you and Jason spent with us. The following paragraph is a memory I would like to share, it was the third and unfortunately last time we met Jason.
While Katie, Ella, my wife, and our toddler were playing by our neighborhood pool I asked Jason how he first got into basketball, because of his advantageous height, or that he just happened to love the sport? He told me that since he was a kid he had dreamed of being in the NBA, and he said he remembered placing a NBA poster up on his wall when he was 6 or 7. And now that he is in the NBA, he loves everything about it. He couldn't believe he was getting paid to do something he loved so much. Jason also said he felt too guilty about buying things with his extra money, he felt more comfortable using it to help family and others. It was at that point in time I realized that Jason Collier was larger than life. Most people I know would already have 2 sports cars, etc.,. And this is also when I learned about his love for one of his favorite charities, the "Sunshine Kids".
That day I was wearing my only pair of tennis shoes and Jason asked me if I needed a new pair because they looked like they needed to be replaced. He said he would get me a free pair if I just called him up and let him know my shoe size!
After we left the pool our families drove separately to a Mexican restaurant. Unfortunately I didn't bring my wallet to the pool, so I had to pull over on the way to the restaurant to let Jason know I just needed to turn around quickly to pick up my wallet at my house. Even though this was only the third time he had met us, he offered to buy our dinner, he just seemed to be full of 'nice gestures'.
Jason Collier's generosity and kindness should be imitated by everyone, we're going to miss him and we are still stunned this happened. Our condolences go out to Jason's entire family and Katie's parents and Allison and Matt, who were not only a sister and brother-n-law to Jason and Katie, but best friends.
Darryl and Heather
I remembered seeing Jason in a rockets uniform and wondered if he'd ever spoken to anybody in his life. To me, he was so gentle and to summarize, humble.
I actually heard of his untimely passing on the BBC World Service News on Monday morning.
I had problems initially remembering what he looked like although I was familiar with the name.
I decided to go online and it was then that I could've put face to name.
It's always sad when someone who has his whole future ahead of him is cut down in his hayday.
To his wife, child and the rest of the Collier family, I say cry if you may, but I believe that everything that happens in this life is for a reason. Remember that God has promised another comforter in your time of bereavement.
God Bless you always

I felt very sad and shocked when I heard about Jason´s death.
I´ve been keeping in touch with Hawks players since Uruguayan native Esteban Batista joined the team. Everyone is talking about Jason as a great person, a team and a family guy. I think our young Esteban may lost a great pal from whom he could have learned a lot. My best wishes to his family and friends. Go Hawks.

The passing of Jason has come at an inopportune time, it is always unfortunate when someone dies at a young age like Jason. Being a hard core Hawks fan, I have grown fond of Mr. Collier for his actions both on and off the court. He always took the time to chat and sign autographs for fans by the court. It only makes dealing with his death even harder when you hear about how much he cared about his family, knowing how much he cared about his fans you can only imagine the kind of love he had for his family. My prayers go out to the Collier family and I know it will be difficult to go to Hawks games and not be able to see Jason there.
May Jason rest in peace

My Prayers are with the colliers, and for our loss of Jason. I lived in Houston and met Jason (as a fan). He was the most crowd friendly and approachable guy on the team, he would stop and sign autographs and take pictures with everyone and just be humble. As a fan of basketball, I am sad because we lose a good guy,but heaven gains an angel, God has other plans for him and my prayers are with him and his family
God Bless the Collier Family..and may Jason Collier's style and grace be emulated by any present and future NBA player.
Jason for me represents what an athlete should be. Someone who's priority is to play the game. In an age when guys prefer to sit on the bench to get a championship, Jason showed in college and pros that he wanted to play. This is the mark of a winner. Someone who believes that he will make the difference for a club between winning and losing.
While he may have not been widely known to all fans, they will now know that an NBA player is not always flashy, not always wild, but that many if not most are guys like Jason who work hard, raise a family, and do a little fishing. And they are loved for it.
Roger W.
To Jason’s parents, I know what it is to lose a son, my son died at age 27. Don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what happened and why, that can eat you up. I know thing are very troubling right now. Just think of the time you had with him. Think of on particular instance that something funny and joyous happened, when things get tough think of that memory and that will help you through the bad time. Be sure to spend a lot of time with his child, his wife and the child will need you to be strong for them. I will continue to pray for all of you and may God Keep you and provide whatever you need to get you through this difficult time.
Love Eunice B., Landover, Maryland
While I do admire Jason for his basketball skills and his presence on the court, that is not what i remember him by. The first time I saw him I remember being surprised at how tall he was and how big he looked with everybody around him, then later when I saw him on the basketball court he didn't seem like the giant I had first seen. The first time I saw Jason was when he was standing at the back of my church for mass. I didn't recognize him the first time but it came to me after a while that the tall guy in the back of my church was a player for the Houston Rockets. Ever since then he became one of the basketball players I respected the most. It's not everyday that you see a professional athlete in church, much less standing right next to you. Jason's death is not only a loss of a player but even more importantly a loss of father, husband, son, and a great Christian.
We can't believe that. He was so young yet! Sometimes life is so hard. We wish to send our condolences to everyone that loved Jason Collier. We will miss him from Italy,
Yoi & Ale
I just wanted to say that I am truly sorry for the lost of a son, a father, a husband, and a friend to many others. I had the chance to meet Jason when he played for the Fayetteville Patriots. He will be sadly missed by many friends. He will be kept in our prayers, may God bless.
I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Jason's passing. Since moving to Atlanta 4 years ago, my wife and I have taken in the Hawks as part of our family. We go to as many games as possible every year and absolutely love it. Jason was one of our favorite players. He was such a hard worker on the floor. He was the one to dive for a loose ball, take the charge, set the big pick, things that most NBA players frown on these days. I can imagine how much of a genuine human being he was. I never met him but wish I could have. Our deepest sympathies to the Collier family.
Sincerely,

I was shocked to hear the news of Jason Collier's passing. He played a very important role for the Atlanta Hawks as well as the entire NBA. I met Jason last year at a childrens' toy drive in Atlanta and he was such a great guy towards me as well as all the other Hawks fans who were there as well. Jason will always be remembered for the loving person he was as well as the great basketball player he was. Jason and all his family members and friends are in my prayers. My condolences also go out to the Atlanta Spirit as well as every member of the NBA who has shown such kindness during this difficult time.

Jason was one of the best guys in the world. As a roommate of my brother at Georgia Tech, I have many great memories of Jason. A down to earth guy and just a great friend. My prayers go out to his family at this very difficult time.

Dear JASON,
Right now you are feeling all the love and support that you gave to all the people lucky to have met such a great guy like you.
Rest in peace, I will pray for you.

I was so upset when I heard the news of Jason's passing on Saturday. I was with my two sons on a playground here in Chattanooga and the news hit me so hard. I've been a fan of the Hawks since the early 80's watching with my dad. My sons are now 4 and 2 and last year while we were watching a game--my oldest son would repeat the public address announcer's call of "Ja-Ja-Ja-Jason Collier" after every basket--It was sooo cool!
We'll definitely miss Jason--and our prayers are with his family and friends.

Please accept our condolences from the Mogadore High School Athletic Department, Mogadore, Ohio. My memories of Jason playing in the Ohio State Championships in high school are vivid. Firstly I'd like to send my sincere condolences to the family, friends and team mates of Jason. I was a fan of his when he was with Houston and followed on the appreciation of his game when he moved to the Hawks. Like many I was shocked to hear of his passing, he was a good young man and fine role model.
He is someone who will no doubt always have a place in many peoples hearts. I pray that God will comfort and help you all through this time.

Dear all
I didn't knew Jason at all, but when I heard from his tragical death, I just realized once more, how quick life can be over. To his wife, child and family I wish and pray for strength and people, who are around them, and who may care this heavy load with them. Spreading such a heavy load on many shoulders can help to carry it. Even if there's not one single word of comfort at this moment who can take and reduce such a great pain.
Lots of love and prayers from Switzerland

As a wide-eyed 11 year old, I was old enough to appreciate Jason Collier's play at Catholic Central High School, but young enough to assign him mythical hero status in my mind. Now, as a 21 year old college student, I am very saddened to hear of his passing. My view of Jason never changed, however, even though its been ten years since he played in that small gym in Springfield. I think the reason is that, even though I only saw his heroism on the court when I was younger, I am now able to understand the person he was; a great son, husband, father, brother, and friend. He was seemingly a regular guy with down to earth values and beliefs in the chaos that is professional sports today. Truly a hero, just as I always thought. Jason will be sorely missed.

I wanted to extend my condolences to the Collier family. As a Spurs fan that lives in Houston, I got the chance to watch Jason play over the years. Every time he was on the floor you could expect to see his hustle and his heart. I regret that y'all have to experience such a great loss but please know that you are not alone.
Sincerely,

I am a Lakers fan but, I am saddened by this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jason's family and teammates.

I send my condolence to the Collier Family and the Atlanta Hawks organization.
I am so sorry for your lost. I may not know him as well as most players, but I know that the family will miss his presences. I hope and pray that the family and Atlanta Hawks can over come this tragedy and continue on. I will keep the family and the Atlanta Hawks in my prayers that God will give you strength in your trials.

To Jason's family, and the Atlanta Hawks I am sorry for your loss. I never had the chance to see Jason play as a Hawk, or got to know him as a person but what I have read on the Hawks website is that, he was a great person on and of the court. my prayers will be with you,and Jason. I am a Spurs fan and a big NBA fan as well, but I am very sad to here about Jason Collier's death. May Jason rest in peace.
my thoughts and prayers are out to Jason's family and friends and his teammates. it was a shock to hear of his passing, he was one awesome player that will be greatly missed by all.
I pray the Lord above will bless you all and comfort you all through this difficult time.

I have been following the Hawks as of last season, although I am a Laker fan here in Los Angeles...I thought Jason was a gentleman and a great player, and did think of him as a stand out center in the league. Its hard to see a tragedy like this, God bless his family specially his wife and daughter.
Whenever Jason Collier came off of the bench in Houston, there was always a buzz in the building. He might not put up numbers quite like the starters, but everyone knew that they were about to see a guy give everything to the team.
I met Jason at a Rockets fan event, and he was a terrific gentleman, and someone who was clearly enthused to be where he was in life. Even after he left the Rockets, and for his brief time in the D league, we always wished him professional success and personal happiness.
In this difficult time, please know that Jason touched countless people in small but significant ways, and our prayers are with those who knew and loved him best.
Since hanging out with Jason in college and enjoying watching him grow and succeed after leaving IU, the news of his passing is difficult. I was just at the golf course two weeks ago telling of a story from IU with Luke, Jason, Michael, Murphy, and myself. What a great time. Jason, thanks for your friendship, thanks for the laughs, and God's love and mercy be with your family, your wife, your precious daughter, fans all around the country who considered you special, and your teammates. You will be missed but never forgotten.

my name is jake and i have been an hawks fan ever simce i was eight years old and i have seen alot of hawks player some that had great talent but didnt leave it on the floor like jason..jason wasnt always the best player on the team but when the hawks needed someone to play hard and leave it on the court that would be jason..jason you will be missed..god bless you and your family.. thanks for setting an example for kids like me and the other basketball player around the world...thanks and god bless... #40 we will never forget..
I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Jason Collier. Aside from being a well-respected and loved athlete, he was most importantly a husband, a father, and a friend. It is always hard seeing somebody so young pass away, but him being a father and husband makes it that much more tragic.
The young Atlanta Hawks team will surely be affected by his loss, not because they lost an important player, but because they lost a friend and role model.
Hopefully, his passing will inspire the Hawks to come together as a team and remember their friend by putting together a great season, in his memory. I truly hope people will strive to emulate Jason's actions, on and off the court. He worked hard to be in the NBA, and as many people have expressed, he was a great guy who loved his family, Atlanta, and the game of basketball.

I am very sorry to here the passing of Jason Collier. I have been a basketball fan for a long time and to see a player like him pass away is devastating. My prayers and thoughts go out to the Collier family and the whole Atlanta Basketball organization. God Bless.

I have been a Hawks fan for 17 years, and have watched Jason play ever since he has worn an Atlanta uniform. I remember in an interview just before offseason, all he would talk about is spending more time with his family. You could feel the love and kindness that Jason had for his family. I will always remember Jason Collier, not only as a basketball player but as a gentle, caring fellow man. My heart goes out to the family and
friends.

its hard to say what you feel when this happens through writing, but I'm not going to lie I'm not a big fan of the hawks and Jason wasn't my favorite basketball player, but he had more heart and love for the game then any other player I've seen. he worked so hard to be the person he wanted to be, and the player he was. he may have only had a career high of 22 points and 11 rebounds but he worked harder than anyone to get that. he was so young for this to happen but we could say that he was different from most people he died doing what he wanted to do, playing the game he loved. he's now in a better place.
my condolences,
Stephanie S.- Colorado
I was at the exhibition game in Birmingham when the Hawks beat the Bobcats. I know that this wasn't my first time seeing Jason play, but again I was very impressed with his abilities.
My heart goes out to his wife and daughter, parents, and all of the Hawks' family. He was so young and I am sure he will missed by all. It seems so unfair because he was so young, but God has another job for him.

I'm truly to hear about Jason passing, it's really a shock. Not only am I a Hawks fan, I'm GT fan as well. Jason was an outstanding youngman, whom was as outstanding player and person for the Hawks and Jackets. My prayers goes out to his family and the Hawks organization.
My God continue to bless you all.

As I was watching NBA TV, I saw at the bottom of the t.v. screen that Jason Collier had died of cardiac arrest. I felt like a part of basketball had died. Even though I didn't know who he was, I still feel like everyone has been affected by it. I'm sure he was a good guy, and with great basketball skills.
Please tell his family, friends, team-mates, coaches and all of his other loved ones that everyone in the midwest sends their love and compassion. For Jason can never be replaced. He will be forever missed and remembered.
Love, Michele.
Firstly, I would like to express my deepest condolenses to Jason's family, the Hawks and fans of the Hawks. I am an Asian who is also an NBA fan for years. I was shocked to know that a dedicated basketball player had passed away today. I am still grieving about it. I guess NBA and the community have just lost a devoted player in terms of Jason's caliber. I would like to thank Jason for his services in the league and the community. I pray that God would watch over him.
A big thank you, JASON.

My thoughts are with family as they go on without him. I still can't believe he is gone. The first time I ever heard of Jason Collier was his freshman year at Indiana, I was in 8th grade and he was without a question my favorite player that year. I still remembering watching the games he played in at IU, I remember where I was when I found out he transferred. I watched every GA Tech game I could when he played there. I followed his NBA career too. I am truly sad and shocked over this. I hate when young people die, and to me it's worse when an athlete dies. I got scared last month when an Indiana girl who played basketball in SC, 22, died of heart failure, and now Jason Collier is dead...As an athlete this scares me, and as a fan it hurts me. I wish the best for his family, and hope they remember the good times.

I am completely saddened by the loss of Jason Collier. My deepest condolences go out to Katie and Elezan, Jeff and the rest of the Collier family. What I do want to share with you is a story and how I will remember Jason for aslong as I live...For several years each summer as a high school student Jason and his family would come to Indian Lake Ohio and spend a day on one of our rental boats. I knew from those short moments speaking with Jason that he was going to be a "Superstar" oneday.
I followed Jason's career those next few years at Springfield Catholic, him becoming "Mr. Ohio" going to college at Indiana and then transferring to his father Jeff's beloved school Georgia Tech. I talked to Jason on the phone just days before he was going to be drafted in the NBA and he wanted a boat. He loved the water and loved spending his very short free time on the water with his family. He was so excited about taking that jump from college to pro's and we talked some hoop's like we always did. I told him good luck in the next few days for the draft and that i wanted to see him go to the bulls...hahaha!! My family and i didn't move that whole draft night and was so excited to see that the gentle giant finally get what he always wanted, when was said and done, Jason was a Rocket!!!
That whole summer for me was a fantastic honor, Jason spent his days at the marina with his boat and family and never once did i see him without a smile.
He was gracious enough to take time out and do a meet and greet with some of our customers that summer and everyone just loved him. We had a super turnout that day and I know Jason was extremely appreciative of the following he had.
So, Im deeply saddened by this loss of a Friend/and a Hero of mine. but Im not going to forget the happy times and that huge smiling face of his.
You will never be forgotten at Indian Lake, you will always have that extended family from the marina.
God bless you my friend and the whole Collier family,
Lanny W. and the Rest of the Spend-A-Day Family
To the Collier and the Spirit family:
As a coach and family man, I am sadden by the news of Jason Collier’s passing, and would like to send my condolences to all of you. I think we are blessed to have an opportunity to be a part of the sport we love, and share our passion with the people we love. When we are confronted with loss, it is comforting to know, that our sport creates an extended family, who can give us some comfort in times like this. No country, language, religion, culture, or any other barrier can limit its reach.

We remember Jason when he played for the Houston Rockets. My little nephew who has C.P. loved Jason and saw him on many occassions. Jason would always take the time to visit with him. I still have the picture of Jason and my nephew on my 'fridge from a Rockets practice. When the Rockets teamed up with my school and Jason came to talk to the students, he made a point of visiting with me and bringing an autographed picture to give to my nephew. He was first class. All players should be as amiable as he was. What a shock this news is.
We pray for his beloved family and will always remember him with the best of thoughts.

My husband and I met Jason & his lovely wife and precious daughter only briefly at Up the Creek Restaurant one evening last summer and thought what a loving family they were and how proud Jason was of his little daughter. We are so saddened to hear of his passing and know he will be missed deeply by his family and his teammates. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I would like to extend my condolence to the family of Jason Collier. I am such an avid NBA fan, almost eveyday I check the NBA website. By reading the news that Jason died, I was a bit upset. He was a good college player at Indiana U ans a solid role player for the Hawks. I will continue to pray for his soul. I hope he will be in God's hands.

I want to show commiseration to Jason Collier and Family. I haven't met nor seen Jason Collier before. Nevertheless, I am a huge fan of Basketball, and I want to show sympathy and Concern to the Collier Family. Fortunately, We as Human beings don't just born/ live, and die. There is another place after death. A place of devastation, and a place of Immaculacy... My best wish to Jason Collier is" Hopefully Heaven will be where he approached. Conversely, It pains to see Jason Collier go at this moment, and it could be joyfulness for him (Jason Collier) to leave us today. Whatever happened to Jason Collier the Lord knows, and Jason himself also knows. Jason is at where we all want to be, that is" To meet the man who created the world!
Thank you very much for sharing moments on earth with your fans, and family, and most specifically, Thank you for who you were, Jason Collier.
From Lilmac
Sincerely.

I'm shocked to hear of Jason Collier's passing and I send my prayers and condolences to the Hawk's organization and team and to Jason's family. We may not know why this happened, but I believe that God has His reasons for allowing these things to occur. Perhaps lives will be touched by this passing and the celebration of his life. God bless.
My heart-felt condolences go out to the Collier family and Atlanta Hawks organization.
Each night, I looked forward to Jason coming into the game, I really enjoyed his play. He was a skilled and hard-working player, but I'm sure he was even more so, a wonderful person, friend and son. During this time, I hope it brings pride to his family and friends in realizing they played a part in Jason becoming the special man that he was.
May you then find strength in remembering the good times with Jason, and in knowing God will watch over him.
From a fan touched by his passing.

Hi I'm 19 and I have been a hawk fan since I started watching the NBA. When I found out this morning that Jason had passed away it really hit hard. I will always remember Jason Collier as a hard working guy, and a great kid. I am a huge Georgia Tech basketball fan, and Jason was one of my favorite players on the team. He just worked so hard, and didn't seem like anything ever got to him on the basketball court. He really seemed like he had a good head on his shoulders. This is a sad day for the family and friends of Jason Collier. As a Georgia Tech fan, and part of "our" family, i will miss Jason, and i say "Rest in Peace". We'll all be up there with you one day. My prayers and condolences go out to Jason's wife, kid, and entire family. God bless.

Jason was a part of the Houston Rocket's team and loved by his fans both here and in Atlanta. We are so very sorry for your loss. I recently lost my younger sister to liver cancer and understand your pain. She passed without warning and it was tragic. Those who loved her had to "walk in Faith" for about a month. We just put one foot in front of the other and thought about her often. In a way I envy my sister because now she will get to meet Jason before I will. I pray God will grant you a warm hand on your hearts to strengthen you at this difficult time.
Sincerely Yours,
John and Brenda M.
My condolences go out to Jason's close friends and family. I was able to meet Jason, briefly, at the season ticket holder's party this past season. He was a great guy, and spent a long time with my friend and I discussing our eminent college adventures, and encouraging me that college would be the best years of my life. We played pool together, and he really made the day an exceptional experience for me.
I hope Jason can be remembered not only for his career on the court, but for his life off of it as well...
I would like to share a couple of pictures of Collier, my friend Orlando, and myself together on that great day - feel free to share them with the rest of the Hawks community.

though it sounds trivial, being a member of the Atlanta Hawks means being a member of my own family. It's tough for me to explain, and really brings me to a loss of words...
i just... I know the Atlanta Hawks Organization will strive to remember Collier, celebrate his life and career, and portray him in some way or fashion in the Phillips Arena so that children and adults alike can remember his legacy.
forgive me for rambling, it's just hard to express how i feel for my Hawks family.
my thoughts and prayers are with you...
god bless,
John A.

As an NBA basketball fan, father and husband, I was sad to hear of the passing of this young man. My family’s thoughts and prayers are with the team, players and execs, and especially the Collier family. I hope they get an outpouring of support and some comfort knowing people around the country still care about someone they may have never met or don’t really know.
