ATLANTA HAWKS POST-GAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH MIKE WOODSON
“We just have to take it a game at a time. I thought tonight was a playoff atmosphere. They let us play on both ends of the floor, and the Chicago team, they never quit. We talked about it before the game, you have to play them for 48 minutes, and it went all the way to the end.”

“Let up is not the word to be using. They didn’t let up. Chicago just played a little bit better, and we couldn’t make shots. They made shots, and defensively they got after it and they turned it up. We struggled in that third quarter somewhat, and early in the fourth, when they made their run. But our guys held it, they made the plays we had to make. Childress misses two big free throws, and we come back and get a big steal which was huge. I have to give my guys credit. Chicago played great tonight, but we were the better team at the end.”

“We have to make our free throws. We’re normally a pretty good free throw shooting team. The guys that normally make them didn’t make them tonight. I’ll put my money on Josh Childress at the line, and Joe at the line, all night long. But we made the plays we had to make to secure the win tonight.”

JOSH SMITH
“We just couldn’t make shots, and Ben Gordon got hot at the right time. It just shows how resilient we are, that we can withstand a comeback like they made.”

“They were being the aggressor, getting to the foul line, cutting the lead down, slowing the game up by getting to the line and getting fouls called. But we kept with it, even though we didn’t shoot our best from the line tonight. Al Horford gave us eight-for-eight, which was big. We really needed it. It just shows the maturity of everybody growing up, and finding a way to win.”

AL HORFORD
“We tried not to let Gordon touch the ball. He got hot at the end of the game, and hit some big shots. We wanted to force a tough two, and no three’s.”

(On the dunk at the end): “I was by myself, so I looked at the clock, and I was like ‘well, I can dribble it out. But there was a lot of time on the clock, so I went ahead and made sure the ball was in the rim, and just throw it down with authority.”

“We got complacent a little bit, and they came back and made that big run. But fortunately, we were able to hold them off.”

CHICAGO BULLS POST-GAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH JIM BOYLAN
“I thought we had some good point guard play. Kirk (Hinrich) was out there a long time, so I needed to sub and give him a break. (Chris) Duhon was there and ready to go, and I like the way that he played tonight. He was there and responded well tonight. We just have to prepare ourselves for each game and continue to battle. Nothing great has ever happened to people who quit. We have a game tomorrow against Milwaukee, and we have to get ready for that.”

(About Aaron Gray) “I think his size is sometimes a factor against the athletes he plays against. He slows them down a little with his big body. We put him out there and things started to go well, so we left him out there for a while.”

(About Hawks) “They came out with a lot of energy in the first quarter and we didn’t get the ball movement and the player movement we needed against them. We missed some shots and they were attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line, which helped them build up a nice lead. We kept coming back at them and didn’t quit, but it wasn’t enough.”

CHRIS DUHON
“We were down twenty to start the second half, but we found something that started working in the second half, and we got back in the game and had a chance to win it in the second half. When my name was called, I just wanted to go back out there and bring as much positive energy as possible. That’s how it is in the league. You have to always stay ready, and when your number is called, you just have to go out there and give it your best. I’m confident in what I can go out there and do to help the team. This was a big game for us. We know we came out to a slow start, and it cost us.”

AARON GRAY
(About dunk late in game) “The end stretch is something you always visualize. As every player would, you want to come out and help your team however you can.”

“The worst thing you can do is not come out ready. It was rough to watch the first half at times, and then there were good times. We did a great job of not quitting. The contributions of Chris Duhon and Ben Gordon were amazing for this team tonight. We have ten games left in the season, and we have to come out and fight for every one of them.”
