ATLANTA HAWKS LAND SECOND
OVERALL PICK IN DRAFT LOTTERY
Team Owns Highest Selection in 30 Years

SECAUCUS, NJ (May 24, 2005) ----- In tonight’s NBA Draft Lottery proceedings, the Atlanta Hawks landed the second overall pick for next month’s NBA Draft, and the team now owns its highest draft selection since picking first overall in 1975. In addition to the No. 2, the Hawks own the 31st and 59th (from San Antonio) overall picks in the June 28 draft, which will take place at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

“Obviously it would have been great to get the number one overall pick,” said Hawks’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight, “but we’re still happy with the outcome. Owning the number two selection gives us a wealth of options. We look forward to moving along with the draft preparation process, and we plan to begin our draft workouts sometime next week.”

In nine previous draft lotteries (there have been 21 of them since the inception of the event in 1985), the Hawks had never finished higher than third overall. Atlanta entered the night with a 25.00% shot at the first spot and a 21.46% chance at the second selection.
