    ATLANTA, GA (Jun 28, 2007) -- The Atlanta Hawks tonight selected forward/center Al Horford from the University of Florida with the third overall pick and Texas A&M guard Acie Law IV with the 11th choice in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft.

    “Horford is a skilled and athletic big man who can play the four or five position for us,” said Hawks head coach Mike Woodson. “He scores, blocks shots, rebounds, and he’s a high-energy player from a winning background.”

    “Law definitely fills a need for us at point guard,” Woodson said. “He’s a proven scorer, and can distribute the ball as well. Down the stretch, he is a big-time player who’s not afraid to take and make big shots. He’s also a big point guard, with the ability to push the ball and run a ballclub.”

    Horford, a Third Team All-American by the Associated Press as a junior and First Team All-SEC, was a three-year starter for the back-to-back National Champion Florida Gators. He led Florida with 9.5 rebounds (2nd in SEC) and 1.8 blocked shots (7th), while averaging 13.2 points (.608 FG%) in 38 games. The 6’10 Horford led the team with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the National Championship game against Ohio State.

    An early entry candidate for the 2007 Draft, he finished his collegiate career ranked 2nd in school history with 189 blocks and 7th in rebounds with 864. He also garnered Second-Team All-SEC honors as a sophomore after averaging 11.3 points, a team-high 7.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots (.608 FG%).

    Alfred Joel Horford was born June 3, 1986 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and attended high school in Grand Ledge, MI. He will wear uniform number 15. His father is former NBA center Tito Horford.

    Law, a consensus First Team All-American as a senior and First Team All-Big 12 selection, averaged a team-high 18.1 points (5th in Big 12) and 5.0 assists (3rd), while shooting 50.0 percent from the field (5th) and 45.8 percent from three-point range.

    A finalist for the Naismith and Wooden Awards, he finished his career ranked third in Texas A&M history with 1,669 points, third in assists (545) and sixth in steals (156).

    The 6’3 Law also was named First All-Big 12 as a junior after averaging team-highs of 16.1 points and 4.0 assists. He ranked in the top 10 in the conference in scoring, assists, steals (50) and field goal percentage (.448).

    Acie Law IV was born June 25, 1985 in Dallas, TX. He will wear uniform number 0. His great uncle is former Chicago Cubs great and Hall of Famer Ernie Banks.
