  • ATLANTA, GA (Aug. 2, 2007) -- The Atlanta Hawks and the National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced the 2007-08 regular season schedule, which for the first time in seven years, finds the Hawks tipping off the season at home against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. This marks only the second time in the history of Philips Arena that the Hawks will begin the season on their home court.

Six of the first nine games will be played in Atlanta as the Hawks look to get off to a fast start in their pursuit of reaching the NBA Playoffs. The start times for Atlanta’s 2007-08 home games will be 7 p.m. for Monday thru Thursday and Saturday games, 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and 2 p.m. on Sundays with the following two exceptions – the annual Martin Luther King Jr. day game on Monday, January 21 vs. Portland which will start at 2 p.m., and the Sunday, March 30th game vs. New York which will start at 4 p.m.

The 41-game home schedule is highlighted by 19 weekend dates – with nine on Fridays and seven on Saturday nights. Atlanta will play five straight at Philips Arena during a 10-of-15 home game stretch between December 11-January 15, and six consecutive road contests during a 12-of-17 away stretch from January 23-February 25. The Hawks’ busiest month of action occurs in March when the Hawks play a total of 17 games, with eight of them at home – equaling the number of home games in November and December.

In addition to hosting league MVP Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks on November 2, other notable contests that first month include the high-scoring Phoenix Suns coming to town on the 7th, and current NBA champions San Antonio Spurs on November 20th. The Miami Heat travel to Atlanta on December 19th and March 8th, and the champions of the Eastern Conference – the Cleveland Cavaliers – will play at Philips Arena on January 9th and February 8th. The Portland Trail Blazers and the league’s #1 pick in the 2007 Draft – Greg Oden – hit town on January 21st, for the Hawks’ MLK Jr. Day game, while the Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to be here on February 6th and the new-look Boston Celtics on April 12th.

The 2007 preseason and local TV schedules should be released in the coming weeks, and the start of training camp is set for Tuesday, October 2 at Philips Arena. Atlanta’s annual media day activities will take place Monday, October 1 at 3 p.m., on the Philips Arena practice court.
