Former Atlanta All-Star Steve Smith begins his third season as the Hawks TV color analyst on FSN South/SportSouth, following his retirement after 14 years in the NBA. He works alongside play-by-play man Bob Rathbun.

Aside from his five-year stint with the Hawks (1994-99), “Smitty” also spent time with the Miami Heat (1991-94, 2005), Portland Trail Blazers (1999-2001), San Antonio Spurs (2001-03), New Orleans Hornets (2003-04) and Charlotte Bobcats (2004). The sharpshooter scored 13,430 points over 942 career games.

He earned All-Star honors in 1998, won an NBA championship with the Spurs in 2003 and was a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team that won a gold medal in Sydney, Australia.

Also a part of “Dream Team II,” Smith and his teammates won the 1994 World Championship in Toronto.

The Detroit native and Michigan State product earned First Team All-America honors as a junior and senior, and ranks as the school’s all-time leading scorer (2,263).

Smith has been equally active off the court, earning the NBA’s prestigious J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award (1998) and the league’s Sportsmanship Award (2002). Additionally, he was inducted in 2006 into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame.

While with the Hawks in 1997, Smith donated $2.5 million to his alma mater to build the Clara Bell Smith Student-Activity Center in memory of his mother. He also founded the Steve Smith Scholarship Fund (www.sssfund.com), which sends one student each year from Pershing High (his high school alma mater) to Michigan State on a four-year scholarship.

Smith and his wife Millie have two sons, Brayden and Davis.
