We here at Hawks.com cannot get enough of Nique, and are constantly scouring the internet for video of his days as the Human Highlight Film. On December 1st, the Hawks will be honoring Dominique as part of Hardwood Classic Nights, with the team wearing throwback uniforms representing the 1986 season.

To get ready for the festivities, Hawks.com is counting down the 21 greatest moments of Wilkins' career. Check back daily as we update the countdown every weekday leading up to the Dec. 1 match-up with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

January 13, 2001: The Hawks retire Dominique Wilkins' #21 jersey in a ceremony at Philips Arena.

In a ceremony held in front of a sell-out crowd of 19,455, the Hawks retired Dominique Wilkins' famous #21 to the rafters, making Dominique only the third player to have his jersey retired by the franchise alongside Bob Pettit and Lou Hudson.

The Hawks honored Wilkins at halftime of a game against the L.A. Clippers, and the ceremony featured tributes to Nique from several of his peers and former teammates, including Michael Jordan, Julius Erving, Tree Rollins, and Randy Wittman. Many of Wilkins' family members and former teammates were in attendance as well.

The night before the game there was a black-tie soiree, hosted by TNT's Ernie Johnson, celebrating Nique's achievements, while also celebrating another occasion -  Dominique's 41st birthday.

Lorenzen Wright
current Hawks player, member of the team during 2000-01 season
"When I came to the Hawks (acquired from the Clippers on Aug.9, 1999), all the players used to ask when Nique's jersey was going to get retired.

Pete Babcock, who was GM at the time, used to say, 'We want to but he isn't retired yet!', because he was still playing in the league.

But when it finally happened, it was really great. He definitely deserved it, and I was proud to be there to witness is. It was a great night for him and for the franchise."
