Dominique’s Greatest Moments - 10

Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame, as you may have heard. We here at Hawks.com cannot get enough of Nique, and are constantly scouring the internet for video of his days as the Human Highlight Film. On December 1st, the Hawks will be honoring Dominique as part of Hardwood Classic Nights, with the team wearing throwback uniforms representing the 1986 season.

To get ready for the festivities, Hawks.com is counting down the 21 greatest moments of Wilkins' career. Check back daily as we update the countdown every weekday leading up to the Dec. 1 match-up with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

December 10, 1986: Dominique ties a career-high with 57 points against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

The NBA loves a marquee matchup, and on a cold Atlanta night in December of 1986 they got one at the Omni, as Dominique Wilkins, the returning scoring champion, tied a career-high with 57 points while Michael Jordan (who would win that season's scoring title) went for 41 in a 123-95 Hawks win.

Nique was on fire from the get-go, hitting 12-14 shots from the field in the first half on his way to 30 points. For the game, he finished 19-28 from the field and 19-21 from the FT line.

Jordan, who would lead the NBA in scoring with an amazing 37.1 ppg for the season (the highest of his career), scored his 41 on 15-25 shooting and 11 of 12 from the line.

The win gave the Hawks an 8-0 record at home and put them at 16-4 through the season's first 20 games, the best record in the league to that point.

Jon Koncak
teammate of Nique's from 1985-1994
"That game was great. Dominique had 57 points against Chicago and the Bulls, and I had two. So after the game, I was yelling to anyone who would listen that Nique and I had combined for 59 points (laughing)."
