Josh Smith, Dominique Wilkins and Dennis Scott to participate in festivities

The Atlanta Hawks will host their 2006 NBA Draft Party (presented by Philips Electronics and Sports Radio 790 The Zone) at Philips Arena this Wednesday, June 28. Fans of all ages are welcome to spend an evening of fun and entertainment, while enjoying exclusive party “extra’s,” available only to those in attendance. Doors open at 6:00 pm and admission is free.

Fans will be able to watch and listen to all of the action from the 2006 NBA Draft live on dozens of TV’s in the Philips Experience (located above Hawk Walk in Philips Arena), while also hearing live from head coach Mike Woodson, Dominique Wilkins and others. Other festivities include, games, contests, prizes and inflatables, as well as appearances by mascots Harry the Hawk and SkyHawk. Additionally, 790 The Zone will be broadcasting live throughout the evening.

Currently, the Hawks own the 5th overall selection (first round) and the 33rd choice (second round). The 2006 NBA Draft will be broadcast live on ESPN from The Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City. ESPN’s coverage begins at 7:00 pm.

Following the Hawks’ first round pick, fans will be treated to a unique basketball shooting contest featuring four teams shooting from various locations on the Philips Arena floor (similar to the event during NBA All-Star Saturday). Hawks forward Josh Smith, Hall-of-Famer Dominique Wilkins, and radio broadcaster and former NBA star Dennis Scott will each lead a team during the competition. Fans in attendance will be able to register for a chance to participate in the shooting contest on one of the four teams.

Serving as official hosts of the party are the 2006-07 A-Town Dancers. The 16 recently selected performers will greet fans entering the arena, before holding an autograph session and posing for pictures.

Hawks alumni, including former All-Star Dan Roundfield, Jim Washington and Charlie Criss are also slated to be on-hand and available for photos and autographs. Hawks television play-by-play man Bob Rathbun will emcee the event.

More information on the evening’s festivities is available by calling (404) 878-3800 or visiting www.hawks.com.
