Atlanta Hawks And Thrashers School Assembly Program

The Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers are happy to announce the continuation of their comprehensive school assembly program for the 2005-06 school year! Targeting elementary schools in the Metro Atlanta area, the "pep rally for reading" encourages kids to read in a fun and exciting way. The assembly features Hawks and Thrashers staff, dance team members and mascots! Participating schools receive 50 books for their library and students receive vouchers good for Hawks and Thrashers games.

The 45-minute assemblies are scheduled at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. To find out about available dates, click here. Be sure to indicate your first, second and third preferences for assembly dates. Please note that only one assembly is held per school and only schools within a 50-mile radius from Philips Arena are eligible. The form must be completed by a school administrator or teacher. Individuals are not eligible to complete registration.

Fast Break for Reading

In conjunction with the NBA and its national campaign to help young people develop a life-long love for reading, the Atlanta Hawks are again offering the Fast Break for Reading program to greater-Atlanta area elementary schools. The objective of this effort is to motivate elementary students to read. Sponsored by Philips Electronics, Sprite and BrandsMart USA , the program uses the excitement of professional basketball to encourage a life long love of reading.     Student Achiever
    The Atlanta Hawks Student Achievers Program is a new effort aimed at encouraging high school and middle school students to earn good grades, stay in school and work hard. Sponsored by Philips Electronics and BrandsMart USA, this initiative-based program rewards students with one free Hawks ticket for achieving success in one of the following categories and affords every student a chance to participate:

    3.0 CLUB - Students earning at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) during a single grading period

    IMPROVING GRADES - Students improving their GPA at least 1 full grade point over the previous grading period

    PERFECT ATTENDANCE - Students who have 0 absences during the most recent or current grading period

    HUSTLE AWARD - Students who may not qualify in any of the above categories, but who teachers think deserve recognition for their efforts.

    Press Pass Program Winners Honored

    At halftime of the Hawks game on April 17 against the New York Knicks, Press Pass Program sponsor FSN South spotlighted the inaugural season of the Atlanta Hawks Press Pass Program, a year-long initiative in partnership with the Georgia Scholastic Press Association and Atlanta Sports & Fitness Magazine, which allowed high school students with interest in pursuing a career in print and broadcast journalism the opportunity to attend a Hawks game and serve as members of the media. Fourteen students from 11 metro Atlanta high schools participated in the program and conducted interviews with players, coaches and various media members, in addition to getting a behind-the-scenes look at the world of sports journalism.
