Grizzlies’ Bob Staak, Michael Adams Announce Resignations

Memphis, Tennessee, May 15, 2002 – The Grizzlies announced that assistant coaches Bob Staak and Michael Adams submitted their resignations today to pursue other opportunities. Staak and Adams served as two of Head Coach Sidney Lowe’s assistants for the last two seasons with the Grizzlies.

“Bob (Staak) and Michael (Adams) are good coaches and first-class professionals, and we will miss their contributions to the team,” said Coach Lowe. “It was their decision to simply go in a different direction and explore other options for their careers.”

Staak said “I want to thank the Grizzlies’ organization for providing the opportunity to work with such fine players. I wish the Grizzlies well in their quest to bring a winner to Memphis.”

Staak came to the Grizzlies as Coach Lowe’s top assistant after spending three seasons as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors. Prior to the Warriors, he was an assistant in Washington, and he has also worked for the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Clippers. Prior to joining the NBA, Staak spent 17 seasons coaching at the collegiate level. He was a head coach at Xavier for six seasons (1979-1985) and Wake Forest for four seasons (1985-89).

Adams joined the team to work closely with the Grizzlies’ backcourt after a playing career that spanned 11 NBA seasons. His playing career included stops in Sacramento, Washington and Denver. Adams’ final season was in 1995-96 with the Charlotte Hornets, and he finished with career averages of 14.7 points, 6.4 assists and 2.9 rebounds. He was selected to the 1992 Eastern Conference All-Star team. Adams was selected in the third round of the 1985 draft after completing his collegiate career at Boston College.
