MEMPHIS, January 10, 2012 - — The Memphis Grizzlies announce today plans to recognize and pay tribute to the life and legacy of Gene Bartow throughout the remainder of the 2011-12 season.

Starting tonight, when the Grizzlies host the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 p.m., and for the remainder of the 2011-12 season, all player uniforms will don a commemorative ‘GB’ patch in memory of Gene. All team officials, coaches, broadcasters and employees will wear ‘GB’ pins – replicas of the uniform patch – and the first 10,000 fans in attendance Tuesday will also receive commemorative pins of their own. A special cover to the Grizzlies game program paying tribute to Gene’s memory will be available to all fans and prior to the National Anthem all in attendance will observe a short video and moment of silence.

The Grizzlies will open the doors to FedExForum early for tonight’s game so that fans and friends of Gene’s may pay their respects. From 5-7 p.m., fans may enter through the main doors of FedExForum to go to the Coventry Health Care Practice Facility where there will be an opportunity to drop off cards or letters for the family, sign a guestbook and see photographs. Tickets are not required unless planning to stay for the game.

The Grizzlies will release further plans to recognize the life and legacy of Gene Bartow throughout the rest of the season at a later date.
