Grizzlies tip-off Read to Achieve in Spanish

Read the Spanish translation of this story

As a member of the Memphis Grizzlies Read to Achieve All-Star Reading Team, Marc Gasol has helped teach multiple elementary students in Memphis about the importance reading, but on Monday, Nov. 16, he took the program to an entirely different level.

For the first time in Memphis Grizzlies Read to Achieve history, Gasol made the program bilingual, as he held a Spanish Read to Achieve Tip-Off at Charjean Elementary.

Gasol read in Spanish to a group of third through fifth graders in an old school style rocking chair that was tailor made for reading time. After reading the Spanish version of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and the Spanish version of "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats to the students, Gasol handed out Grizzlies backpacks and signed autographs for the students. Before leaving Gasol and the students all recited the Read to Achieve pledge in Spanish.
