On the difference in the 4th quarter:
They just made plays. We didn’t rebound and they kept making plays. They made a lot of threes. We had a long battle to come from 20 points down; we had the lead and were playing with 3-4-5-point lead and turned it over a couple times and they went right down and hit some threes. We battled back and take the lead again and then we don’t get the defensive rebounds. On two possessions they got offensive rebounds and scored off of them. It was a good, tough test for our team and it let them know what it’s like to play playoff-atmosphere basketball. The crowd was tremendous tonight. The Spurs came out with a lot of energy and got on us early. They really did a [good] job of taking Zach away and getting those offensive rebounds. They played well and hung in there as a champion would and they deserve the win.
On what happened on those threes in the fourth quarter:
Well they were running pick and rolls and the big was rolling. The 4-man is usually the guys that’s helping on the roll and they were just throwing back out to Bonner and he was hitting them.
On what he attributes the comeback to:
We battled. We’re resilient. We just keep coming and keep competing. We finally got our bearings right on what we were doing and got us some rhythm offensively. We just kept battling.
On what they were doing differently defensively to start the second half:
We were just battling. We’ve been defending all year and we defended, got stops, ran out and scored. They had 16 turnovers and we scored 27 points on those turnovers. We had 48 points in the paint, and we had 17 fast-break points. We just played the way we play. We just did it better. Our effort was better and our energy was better. Now we just have to get smarter.
On Mike Conley’s play tonight:
Conley means something to us every night. The one sad fact tonight was that we had to put him on Ginobili to try and slow Ginobili down. He did a decent job but he got into foul trouble. From an offensive perspective he made some shots and got to the basket. He was key for us getting back and staying ahead.
What was the difference in this game?
We couldn’t get stops at key moments in the game. It was a battle tonight, Ginobli got to the paint and they shot 33 free throws to our 19. That was the difference, we battled back, but we just couldn’t pull it out.
Down by 20, what was the thinking at that point?
Just keep on playing hard, try and get back in the game. We came out just missing shots, going too fast. I think we was just trying to play to fast and too quick, and we just calmed down and started playing our game.
Did you guys do anything different defensively?
We locked down. That’s one of the best teams in the NBA, so you know their going to score baskets and get calls. It was just one of them games that was just a dogfight.
