O.J. Mayo Keynote Speaker for Boys' and Girls' Club Steak n' Burger Dinner
MEMPHIS, March 05, 2010 - O.J. Mayo will further his commitment to help provide positive role models for the youth of Memphis by serving as the keynote speaker at the 39th Annual Steak n’ Burger Dinner benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Memphis on March 11 at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
The Grizzlies second-year guard will speak to those in attendance about second chances and his experiences growing up in a Boys & Girls Club. As part of his dedication to the city and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Memphis, Mayo will auction off the opportunity for partygoers to have the 2009 Rookie of the Year runner-up host a special basketball clinic at FedExForum at a mutually agreed upon date.
“I don’t know if I would be where I am today if it hadn’t been for the time I spent in Boys & Girls Clubs growing up,” said Mayo. “I feel that as a leader on our team and in the Memphis community it is my obligation to help set an example for our youth, so I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to take part in the Steak n’ Burger Dinner.”
Mayo won’t be the only member of the Grizzlies family who will be on hand to support this true Memphis tradition of giving, as Grizzlies television color commentator Sean Tuohy is set to emcee the event, while Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace will also be on hand to show his support to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Memphis.
The Annual Steak n’ Burger Dinner is Boys & Girls Club of Greater Memphis’s largest fundraiser of the year and is one of the most unique events in Memphis. While adults eat hamburgers, courtesy of Backyard Burger, the kids who are members of the Boys & Girls Club will dine on steak.
