Grizzlies announce Green Week Activities

MEMPHIS, April 2, 2012 — As part of NBA’s fourth annual Green Week, which will take place April 4-11 this year, the Memphis Grizzlies are hosting Grizzlies Go Green Night presented by International Paper on Saturday, April 7 when they tip-off against the Dallas Mavericks at 7 p.m.

To begin the night, fans are encouraged to participate in the Fourth Annual Tour de Grizz, presented by New Belgium Brewing, for a police-escorted bike ride from the Memphis Zoo to FedExForum to cheer on the Grizzlies. Packages start at $25 and include a ticket to that night’s game, admission to the Memphis Zoo the entire day of April 7 and a Tour de Grizz souvenir item to commemorate the event. Spaces are available for individuals by calling (901) 205-1460.

Also among the evening’s other festivities is the “Grizzlies Go Green Expo,” presented by Keep Tennessee Beautiful.  Thanks to volunteers from Memphis and Mid-South non-profit groups that focus on sustainability, fans will have the opportunity to learn how to live greener, and the first 5,000 fans will receive Grizzlies Seed Packets courtesy of Keep Tennessee Beautiful.  There will also be special “Green Tips” shown during the game to educate fans and a special in-seat recycling collection by ushers throughout the game.

In conjunction with Memphis’ part in NBA Green Week, the Grizzlies will take part in the NBA Green Week Community Project presented by Kroger on Tuesday, April 10. Grizzlies’ players will volunteer with Grizzlies staff members and Kroger associates to plant trees and flowers and clean the playground area at Bruce Elementary School at 1:30 p.m.

The NBA continues to work closely with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to be more environmentally friendly and maximize green business opportunities, savings and integration across the league.  Over the past few years, the NBA has collectively made significant environmental improvements to its operations and marquee events. During the 2012 NBA Green Week, teams and players throughout the league are encouraged to participate in hands-on community service projects, recycling programs, green giveaways and promotions to support greener lifestyles.

To take part in Grizzlies Go Green Night on April 7, fans can visit any Ticketmaster outlet, the FedExForum Box Office, call (800) 4NBA-TIX or Buy Online.  For more information on the Memphis Grizzlies, ‘like’ Memphis Grizzlies on Facebook or follow on Twitter (@memgrizz).
