Grizzlies to host Hoops for St. Jude Night presented by C Spire Wireless on March 27

Memphis, March 26, 2012 – In conjunction with NBA’s Hoops for St. Jude Week, the Memphis Grizzlies are hosting Hoops for St. Jude Night, presented by C Spire Wireless, on Tuesday, March 27 when they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Grizzlies’ own Rudy Gay is an official Hoops for St. Jude ambassador, which includes several other NBA players and coaches, and will help lead the night’s activities. Prior to tipping-off against the Timberwolves, Gay will present a check with his contribution to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.

Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins, along with members of the coaching and broadcasting staffs, will be wearing St. Jude lapel pins in support of Hoops for St. Jude Week. PSA’s promoting the campaign will be shown throughout the evening, while a patient and family will be given special recognition during the contest.  There will also be a special National Anthem performance by a St. Jude patient.

As the presenting sponsor of the event, C Spire Wireless will match the donation made by Gay. C Spire Wireless is the Official Wireless Partner of the Memphis Grizzlies and FedExForum. For a quarter of a century, C Spire has been committed to supporting education, strengthening communities and improving lives through its philanthropic initiative, partnerships and employee volunteerism.

Grizzlies’ Hoops for St. Jude Night is a culmination of a nationwide awareness effort for St. Jude that spans the 2011-12 season. During Hoops for St. Jude Week, March 26-30, the NBA comes together - teams, players, coaches, referees, trainers and fans - to help raise awareness and funds for children battling cancer and other deadly diseases at St. Jude. Basketball fans can join the Hoops for St. Jude team in supporting the lifesaving mission of St. Jude by donating at stjude.org/hoops.

Fifty years ago, St. Jude was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. Its mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other deadly diseases through research and treatment. Funds raised through the Hoops for St. Jude program help St. Jude continue to provide the best care to the world’s sickest children at no cost to their family. It costs $1.7 million a day to operate St. Jude and more than 75 percent of those funds come from the public through programs like Hoops.

To take part in Hoops for St. Jude Night on March 27, fans can visit any Ticketmaster outlet, the FedExForum Box Office, call (800) 4NBA-TIX or get tickets online.
