Mitchell "J.J" Anderson All-Star Basketball Camp

MEMPHIS, July 30, 2012 – Grizzlies director of pro personnel Mitchell Anderson and Vice President of Basketball Operations and Team Programs Dana Davis are holding the 16th Annual Mitchell “J.J.” Anderson All-Star Basketball Camp from Monday, July 30 to Thursday, Aug. 2 at FedExForum (191 Beale St.).  There will be two sessions daily from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

Boys and girls from Memphis and the Mid-South will learn the fundamentals of the game of basketball and have the opportunity to discuss current issues pertaining to today’s youth from successful community leaders.  Speakers include Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace, Grizzlies President of Business Operations Greg Campbell and Grizzlies Assistant General Manager Kenny Williamson, among others.  Speaking times will be at 11:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. each day.

In addition, health services will be provided by University of Tennessee medical students from Le Bonheur and Methodist Hospitals – under the leadership of Dr. Jimmie Mancell and Dr. John Tosi – and Eyewear Gallery.

Anderson, who has served 12 seasons with the Grizzlies, has hosted his basketball camp each summer since 1997.  A First-Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection in all four seasons during his career at Bradley University (1978-82), Anderson is one of seven players to have his uniform number (11) retired by the school.  In August 2010, Bradley renamed its practice court the Mitchell “J.J.” Anderson Court to honor the Chicago native.

Davis, who also has served 12 seasons with the franchise, was named to the Board of Directors for the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis in July 2011.  A graduate of Bradley University, Davis was elected to the African-American Hall of Fame Museum in his native Peoria in 2007.
