Marc Gasol’s jersey to be retired by Lausanne Collegiate School

MEMPHIS, December 9, 2008 — Grizzlies rookie center Marc Gasol will be honored by his high school alma-mater, Lausanne Collegiate, with a ceremony to retire his Lausanne jersey at half-time of the school’s varsity boys basketball game on December 11. Gasol’s career at Lausanne will also be recognized during pre-game prior to the Grizzlies contest against the Chicago Bulls the following night at FedExForum on December 12.

Gasol, who played for the Lausanne Lynx from 2001-03, is the first alumnus in Lausanne history to play in the NBA. During his senior year at Lausanne, Gasol led the Lynx all the way to the TSSAA Division 2 state basketball championship game, averaging 26.2 points, 13.1 rebounds and 5.9 blocks per contest. A member of the 2008 silver medal-winning Spanish National Team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, Gasol currently leads all rookies in field goal percentage and is in the top ten in points and rebounds.
