Grizzlies and Kroger to host Kroger Cares tip-off Oct. 23

MEMPHIS, October 22, 2010— The Memphis Grizzlies and Kroger will introduce their new community partnership with the Kroger Cares Tip-Off event this Saturday, Oct. 23 from 2-4 p.m. at the Krogers at the Trinity Commons and Poplar Plaza.

Grizzlies players and coaches will jump right in and help out by bagging groceries and delivering them to customers’ cars. They will also collect canned goods purchased at Kroger for the Mid-South Food Bank that customers will in exchange receive a buy-one-get-one ticket voucher for an upcoming Memphis Grizzlies regular season home game.

Rudy Gay, Sam Young and Xavier Henry, along with Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins and General Manager Chris Wallace will be at the Trinity Commons location on 640 North Germantown Parkway, Cordova, TN 38018. Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol and Greivis Vasquez will be joined by President of Business Operations Greg Campbell and Grizzlies assistant coaches Dave Joerger and Damon Stoudamire at the Poplar Plaza Kroger at 3444 Plaza Avenue, Memphis, TN 38111. All players, coaches and front office members will be available to the media from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

The Grizzlies will also be bringing some of the fun of their popular Block Parties to the Kroger Cares Tip-Off event. Kids will have a chance to enjoy Grizzlies inflatables, face painters and balloon artists as live DJs play at each location to add to the festivities. The Grizz Girls and Claw Crew will also be at both the Trinity Commons and Poplar Plaza Krogers to help with special giveaways and prizes.

“Kroger is excited to be able to work with the Grizzlies organization,” said Kroger Manager of Marketing and Public Affairs, Joe Bell. “To be able to team up with the Grizzlies, support charitable causes important to us both, and raise even more money for them, is a win-win for everyone involved including the fans . We can’t wait to see how much these organizations benefit with everyone’s efforts.”

The new Kroger Cares initiative is set to take place throughout the season and will see a portion of sales from group or individual game tickets go to help Memphis charities in need. The six Kroger Cares Games this season include: Nov. 26 vs. the Golden State Warriors, Dec. 21 vs. the New Jersey Nets, Jan. 21 vs. the Houston Rockets, Feb. 4 vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers, March 4 vs. the New Orleans Hornets and March 27 vs. the San Antonio Spurs.
