Memphis, April 9, 2008 – Grizzlies fans attending the team’s final regular season home game on Saturday against Minnesota can use their tickets to get into the inaugural Jack Jones Shootout game taking place at FedExForum at 1 p.m.
The Jack Jones Shootout is a showcase game for some of the top high school players from both Memphis and from around the country, featuring not only seniors, but underclassmen as well, many of whom play for the M33M AAU teams.
Among the players taking part from Memphis are Ridgeway High’s Sampson Carter, MVP of the 2008 Tennessee AAA state tournament, sophomore guard Mardracus Wade from Mitchell High, sophomore Tim Peete from Central High and freshman guard Adonis Thomas from Melrose High. The Memphis team will also boast point guard Jordan Miller from Mitchell, SD, the cousin of Grizzlies guard/forward Mike Miller.
The game will also feature prominent players from around the country, such as Leonard Washington, a power forward from Lake Charles, LA who’s a three-time Louisiana All-State Player. Among the other players participating will be junior point guard Jamal Webb from Buffalo, NY, and sophomores such as forward Myron Respress from Niagara Falls, NY, point guard Davon Marshall, also from Niagara Falls, and forward Javon McCrae, the nephew of former NBA player John Wallace, from Newark, NJ.
The event is named in honor of Jack Jones, a long-time supporter of the University of Memphis Tigers, and a Grizzlies Season Ticket Holder since the team arrived in Memphis in 2001.
“I thank my wife Sandra and M33M’s General Manager Ernie Kuyper for coming up with the concept for the Jack Jones Shootout. They took this idea to the Grizzlies, who cannot be congratulated enough for the work they have done to make this game a success on every level,” said Jones. “We are all dedicated to building the Jack Jones Shootout into the premier showcase game for high school sophomores and juniors, drawing coaches and fans to our city from all over the country.”
In addition to the game on the 12th, the players will be holding a camp at STREETS Ministries on Friday, April 11, for hundreds of local youth.
Fans wishing to attend both the Jack Jones Shootout and the Grizzlies’ final home game of the season against the Minnesota Timberwolves can purchase tickets online, at the FedExForum box office, any Ticketmaster location, or by calling (901) 888-HOOP.
