Music legend Issac Hayes, N’Sync’s Justin Timberlake to participate
The Grizzlies announced today that contrary to popular belief good seats are still available for the historic, regular season home opener against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night, November 1, at The Pyramid.
To start the historic evening, Rock n’ Soul music legend Isaac Hayes and N’Sync’s Justin Timberlake - a Grizzlies season ticket holder - will participate in opening ceremonies. Hayes is scheduled to deliver his rendition of 'God Bless America,' and Timberlake will perform the 'National Anthem.' NBA Commissioner David Stern will also join the festivities at the Grizzlies home opener.
The opening night spectacular begins as the doors open with 10,000 USA flags being distributed to all Grizzlies fans. The pre-game ceremony features a tribute honoring victims and families of the September 11 tragedy. The ceremony includes a moment of silence, plus the Grizzlies and Pistons will participate in a ceremonial tip-off with a commemorative game-autographed red, white and blue basketball. After the game, the NBA will sell the commemorative ball to the highest bidder via the internet to raise funds for the victims’ families.
"We believe opening night will be an unforgettable evening for fans, players, Memphis and the Mid-South," said Grizzlies President of Business Operations Andy Dolich. "From our pre-game festivities to the regular-season tip-off, the Grizzlies home opener will be a non-stop party. History will be made, and everyone will want to be a part of it."
At halftime, the Grizzlies will celebrate Memphis’ rich musical history. The ten-minute musical extravaganza will feature local musicians showcasing a variety of music and sounds traditional to Memphis. The Grizzlies will also showcase their on-court talent, introducing each Grizzlies player in an inaugural opening night ceremony. Grizzlies rookie forward Shane Battier will welcome the crowd with a special pre-game address. Among the many scheduled to attend the home opener are the President of the Spanish Basketball Federation, 20 visiting Spanish media, over 100 visiting Spanish fans as well as local dignitaries and celebrities from throughout the Mid-South.
Tickets for the Grizzlies historical home opener are available in all price ranges ($9 to $70) and may be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, The Pyramid Box Office, www.grizzlies.com or by calling 1-800-4NBA-TIX.
