Grizzlies set to host Go Green Game Friday, April 2nd
MEMPHIS, Tennessee— The Grizzlies are working to help the environment, and as part of NBA Green Week will host various activities to bring awareness to protecting the planet. Their efforts will be highlighted by their second straight Grizzlies Go Green Game presented by International Paper this Friday, April 2 when they welcome the New Orleans Hornets.
The Grizzlies Go Green Game will again focus on encouraging fans to participate in greening efforts. Throughout the game the Grizzlies will run announcements on the scoreboard that give fans tips on how to help the environment and save money at the same time. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a reusable Grizzlies canvas tote bag that fans can use as an alternative to disposable bags. Fans will also have the chance to experience the Green Expo at the Grizzlies Go Green Game that will take place on the Plaza Level for the second straight year. During the third quarter the Grizzlies and International Paper will team up to actively recycle by having ushers collect plastic containers and other recyclables used at the game.
To attend the Grizzlies Go Green Game on Friday, April 2 when the Grizzlies welcome the New Orleans Hornets, fans can purchase tickets at all Ticketmaster outlets, by calling 1-800-4NBA-TIX, by visiting the FedExForum Box Office or online at grizzlies.com.
In the spirit of recycling, the Grizzlies will also put autographed NBA Green Week shooting shirts made of 100% organic cotton worn by Rudy Gay, O.J. Mayo, Marc Gasol and Mike Conley on their online auction block for another person to enjoy. Two NBA Green Week basketballs made of recycled materials signed by Gay and another by the entire team will also be up for bid starting April 2. All NBA Green Week items will close on April 12. Proceeds from the Grizzlies online auction series benefit Memphis Grizzlies House at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To place bids or find out more go to grizzlies.com.
Grizzlies players Sam Young and Marcus Williams will also be joining the green movement when they head to Dexter Elementary at 7105 Dexter Road on April 5 at 2:30 p.m. Young and Williams will be joined by students to plant trees and shrubs at Dexter Elementary. The Grizzlies players will then assist students as they make picture frames out of recycled cardboard the team has been collecting and decorate them with Grizzlies posters and pocket schedules.
