Memphis, Tennessee, June 28, 2005 — The Memphis Grizzlies selected Hakim Warrick of Syracuse with the 19th pick in the 2005 NBA Draft.
“We are delighted to have such an excellent prospect and player in Hakim Warrick,” said Memphis Grizzlies President of Basketball Operations Jerry West. “He has played at the highest level of competition with Syracuse in the Big East and improved every year. He’s a player with a very large upside.”
“We got the highest recommendations that you could possibly get from (Head Coach) Jim Boeheim at Syracuse University, who this young man played for,” said Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Mike Fratello. “He’s long, he’s an athlete, he gives us flexibility as far as where he’ll play – he’s a player. This is a quality young man that we drafted.”
Warrick, a 6-9 forward, played four seasons at Syracuse, and finished his career with averages of 15.4 points on 53.6% shooting, 7.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
