Grizzlies to host Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Drive

MEMPHIS, January 2, 2009 — The Memphis Grizzlies are set to host the Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Drive, which will be a series of events to help raise funds and provide athletic shoes for youth from the Mid-South and the Darfur/Sudan region in Africa.

The Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Drive consists of two steps. First, the Grizzlies are partnering with the NBA and TNT for the first step of the shoe drive, when they host an athletic shoe drive on Tuesday, January 13 at FedExForum during the Grizzlies contest against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Grizzlies players such as O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay, Kyle Lowry, Hakim Warrick and Mike Conley will make contributions from their athletic shoe affiliations, while fans who drop off new, unused athletic shoes at the game will receive a buy one get one free ticket voucher for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day game on January 19. These shoes will then be donated by the Grizzlies and Samaritan’s Feet to STREETS Ministries.

The final step of the Grizzlies Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Drive will take place during the MLK Jr. Day game on January 19, when the Grizzlies host a silent auction of shoes autographed by Grizzlies and other players from around the NBA. All donated funds will be distributed to Samaritan’s Feet.

Samaritan’s Feet is an international ministry focused on bringing a life-changing message of hope to youth and children through sports and recreational adventures. They provide relief to people displaced due to poverty, ravaging wars and religious persecution. They demonstrate compassion by washing and equipping children’s feet with shoes and touching their hearts.
