Grizzlies to Host Hoops for St. Jude Night, March 12
MEMPHIS, Tennessee— The Memphis Grizzlies are hosting Hoops for St. Jude Night this Friday, March 12 when they take on the New York Knicks.
Hoops for St. Jude Night at FedExForum will give fans in attendance the opportunity to make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® on-site at one of the many laptops that will be set up in the concourse. With a donation of $20 or more fans will receive a commemorative Hoops for St. Jude lapel pin, the same pin that Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins and television play-by-play announcer Pete Pranica have worn throughout the 2009-10 season.
The first 3,000 fans in attendance will also receive St. Jude t-shirts, while a patient family will be given special recognition during the contest. Grizz and the Grizz Girls presented by Gold Strike Casino Resort will be wearing special Hoops for St. Jude t-shirts during the game, as PSA’s promoting the campaign will be shown throughout the evening. There will also be a special National Anthem performance by a St. Jude patient.
“The Hoops for St. Jude initiative is another wonderful program started by the team at St. Jude to help fund the world-renowned children’s hospital,” said Greg Campbell, Grizzlies President of Business Operations. “We are proud to be able to do our part to assist our partner in the Memphis community in making this a major success.”
The Grizzlies’ Hoops for St. Jude Night is a culmination of a nationwide fundraising effort in support of St. Jude that spans the 2009-10 season. The Grizzlies’ own Rudy Gay, along with other NBA stars Pau Gasol, Shane Battier, Danny Granger, Kevin Love and Steve Blake are making a donation for each point that they score throughout the season, and each player involved will donate at least $20,000 to St. Jude.
Prior to the game against the Knicks, Gay will present a check with his contribution of $22,222 to St. Jude. The Grizzlies will also be presenting a check for the money that was raised at the Grizz Gala presented by the Gold Strike Casino Resort, which will benefit Memphis Grizzlies House at St. Jude.
“Visiting Memphis Grizzlies House and St. Jude as a member of the Grizzlies has given me the opportunity to meet many St. Jude patients over the years and see for myself the children’s inspiring courage,” said Gay. “I’m honored that because of the game of basketball, I’m able to help out an institution so important to me in the city that has become home.”
