Memphis Grizzlies announce series of events leading up to Opening Night

Fans will get their first live look at Mike Conley and the 2007-08 Grizzlies at the Blue/White Scrimmage on October 3.

MEMPHIS, September 28, 2007– The Grizzlies open the 2007-08 regular season on October 31 against the San Antonio Spurs, but there will be plenty of Grizz sightings around Memphis in the weeks leading up to the game.

Fans will be able to get their first glimpse at this season’s team at the First Annual Memphis Blue & White Open Scrimmage on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The Grizzlies will split into two teams and go head-to-head at a lunchtime event at FedExForum before heading off to Spain that evening. The event is free, with doors opening at 11 a.m. and the scrimmage beginning at Noon.

Grizzlies Open Practice and Grizz Week Activities

Fans, make plans to attend Open Practice at FedExForum, Saturday, October 13 for a sneak peek at how Coach Iavaroni runs a team practice. This annual event isfree and open to the public at FedExForum. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and practice tips-off at Noon. Grizzlies. While visiting FedExForum, fans are also encouraged to select their seats for the upcoming season. Grizzlies’ sales representatives will be on hand to assist fans with purchasing season tickets and power packs. Season tickets, 22-game packages and power packs are on sale now, and start at just $5 per game.

Preceding the Open Practice will be the Season Ticket Holder-exclusive State of the Franchise meeting, where Season Ticket Holders will be able to ask questions to President of Hoops LP Gene Bartow, General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace, Head Coach Marc Iavaroni and President of Business Operations Andy Dolich. Season Ticket Holders interested in attending the event should RSVP with their account representative or online at grizzlies.com.

As opening night gets closer, the Grizzlies will resume holding their popular Block Parties, beginning on Friday, Oct. 19 at Audubon Park in East Memphis from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The fun continues on Wednesday, October 24 as the Grizzlies tip-off Grizz Week, with a series of events in the week leading up to opening night, beginning with the Grizzlies hosting the Houston Rockets in preseason action at FedExForum on October 24.

October 25 - The Grizzlies will hold the Read to Achieve Tip-Off event at White Station Elementary School, with Grizzlies players in attendance getting kids excited about reading. On Oct. 26, preseason action continues against the Indiana Pacers.

Saturday, Oct. 27 - The Grizzlies will be holding another Block Party at Dalstrom Park in Whitehaven from 2 – 4 p.m. The Block Parties have been an enormous success this year, and will continue with more locations in 2008.

Monday, Oct. 29 - The Grizzlies will host the annual Tip-Off Luncheon, an event featuring all Grizzlies players and coaches. Tables for the Tip-Off Luncheon are still available, and information on how to purchase a table can be found on grizzlies.com.

Grizz Week culminates with a downtown pep rally at Peabody Place mall on Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 5 - 7 p.m. The pep rally will feature players, team mascot Grizz and the dance team, and will get fans excited about the opening of the 2007-08 season.

The Grizzlies will then open the 2007-08 season on Halloween Night, Oct. 31, at FedExForum against the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs. Single game tickets to this game, as well as the other 40 regular season contests, go on sale Saturday, October 13.
