Grizzlies reach multi-year broadcasting agreement with Entercom Communications
All games to be simulcast on 92.9-FM ESPN/680 AM ESPN
MEMPHIS, AUGUST 17, 2011 – The Memphis Grizzlies have reached a multi-year radio broadcasting agreement with Entercom Communications to simulcast all Grizzlies games on 92.9 FM ESPN/680 AM ESPN, beginning with the 2011-12 season.
In addition to the live game broadcasts, Grizzlies play-by-play announcer Eric Hasseltine will host a new show on ESPN 92.9 FM ESPN/680 AM ESPN from 2-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, debuting Aug. 22.
Hasseltine will team with color analysts Hank McDowell and Elliot Perry to provide commentary on ESPN Radio, which will broadcast all Grizzlies preseason, regular season and postseason games.
“We are excited about the move to 92.9 FM ESPN/680 AM ESPN and the opportunity it presents to speak directly to our most devoted fans, while allowing them to hear our games on the station they listen to most,” said Randy Stephens, Grizzlies Senior Vice President of Broadcast. “Teaming with a powerful brand such as ESPN Radio is a great opportunity to continue the growth we enjoyed during last spring’s playoffs and the addition of The Eric Hasseltine Show will only enhance the team’s relationship with the Memphis community.”
Entering his seventh season as the radio voice of the Grizzlies, Hasseltine joined the club upon its arrival in Memphis, previously serving as the pregame, halftime and postgame host on all the team’s radio broadcasts. Prior to his work with the Grizzlies, the Walnut Creek, Calif. native spent time with the flagship station of the Sacramento Kings, where he worked as a reporter and hosted a weekly NBA show, served as the play-by-play announcer for the football and basketball teams at his alma mater, UC Davis, and covered the NFL’s Oakland Raiders.
“We are thrilled to be the broadcast home of the Memphis Grizzlies,” said Dan Barron, Vice President and Market Manager of Entercom Memphis. “Partnering with our hometown professional sports team makes sense for our listeners and for 92.9 FM ESPN/680 AM. We’re a 24/7 sports station and adding the Grizzlies to our line-up compliments our other programming, enhances the experience for loyal fans and attracts new listeners. 92.9 FM ESPN/680 AM offers a healthy balance of heavy hitting national and award winning local shows. Big time sports on a big time sports station is what listeners expect. We could not be prouder of our association with the Memphis Grizzlies.”
