Grizzlies add Malick Badiane to training camp roster

Two-a-day workouts begin
Memphis, September 30, 2008 — The Memphis Grizzlies have signed forward/center Malick Badiane (pronounced Muh-LEEK BAHD-ee-EN), adding to their 16-man training camp roster, the club announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 6-10, 240-pound Badiane recently played for the Grizzles’ 2008 Las Vegas Summer League team, posting 4.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 19.2 minutes in five games (all starts). Originally selected by the Houston Rockets in the second round (44th overall) of the 2003 NBA Draft, Badiane’s draft rights were acquired by the Grizzlies on Feb. 21, 2008 in a three-way trade involving Houston and the New Orleans Hornets.
The 24-year-old Senegal native recorded 12.8 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists on 58.9 percent shooting in 23 games last season for Saint Vallier Basket Drome in France, where he was named the 2007-08 Eurobasket Bosman Player of the Year. Badiane also has competed in the FIBA Africa Championship in 2003, 2005 and 2007 with the Senegalese National Team.
The team will begin two-a-day workouts today at the Coventry Health Care Practice Facility at FedExForum. Media should arrive at 11:40 a.m. for the morning session and 6:30 p.m. for the evening session.
