Memphis Grizzlies acquire draft rights to Juan Carlos Navarro from Washington in exchange for future first round draft pick

MEMPHIS, August 17, 2007 — Memphis Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today the team has acquired the draft rights to Juan Carlos Navarro from the Washington Wizards in exchange for a future first round draft pick.

“We are pleased to be able to acquire the draft rights to Juan Carlos Navarro from the Wizards,” said Wallace. Juan Carlos is one of the elite players on the European and international scenes. He brings significant big game experience, outside shooting, passing skills and a fierce competitiveness to the Grizzlies.”

Navarro played the last nine seasons with FC Barcelona in his native Spain, leading the team to four ACB League championships and earning the league’s Most Valuable Player award in 2006. He was also a key member of Spain’s 2006 World Championship team with Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol.

Navarro was originally drafted by the Wizards with the 40th overall pick in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft.
