Grizzlies acquire Chris Mihm

MEMPHIS, February 18, 2009 – The Memphis Grizzlies added depth to the team’s frontcourt by acquiring Chris Mihm from the Los Angeles Lakers, Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today. The Grizzlies also received cash considerations in exchange for a 2013 protected second round draft pick.

The 7-0, 265-pound center holds career averages of 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.02 blocks in 20.1 minutes in eight seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics and Lakers. Mihm has averaged 2.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.33 blocks in 5.8 minutes in 18 appearances this season, his fifth with the Lakers, who originally acquired Mihm from the Celtics along with Chucky Atkins and Jumaine Jones in exchange for Gary Payton, Rick Fox and a future first round draft pick on Aug. 13, 2004.

Selected seventh overall in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls, Mihm was traded on draft night to Cleveland in exchange for the draft rights to Jamal Crawford and cash considerations. Mihm, after averaging 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds in his rookie season with the Cavaliers, was named to the 2000-01 NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

Mihm left the University of Texas after his junior year as the school’s all-time leader in blocked shots (264), while ranking second in rebounds (945), double-doubles (47) and 13th in scoring (1,404). He was named to the Associated Press First Team All-America in his final season in Austin.

Mihm becomes the fourth seven-footer on the Grizzlies roster, joining Marc Gasol (7-1), Darko Milicic (7-0) and Hamed Haddadi (7-2), who is currently playing for the NBA Development League’s Dakota Wizards. Memphis’ roster now stands at 14.
