Grizzlies set to tip-off Season of Giving

MEMPHIS, November 14, 2012 — The Grizzlies will be spreading holiday cheer across the City of Memphis as they tip-off their Season of Giving this week. Grizzlies players, coaches, family members and staff will team with community partners to make a difference in the lives of children and families by hosting several charitable events throughout November and December.

The Grizzlies Season of Giving will tip-off Thursday, November 15 at Carver High School (1591 Pennsylvania St. Memphis 38106) at 3 p.m. when Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph will provide and distribute food baskets to 400 families of Carver High for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. The food baskets will include ham, turkey or chicken, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, green beans, cornbread and brownie mix.

The festivities will continue when Grizzlies forward Quincy Pondexter continues his Random Acts of Q-Ness as he distributes 400 Thanksgiving food baskets to his Twitter followers and families at Power Center Academy and New Direction Christian Church (6120 Winchester Rd. Memphis 38115) on Sunday, November 18 at 3 p.m.

The Lady Bears, comprised of women who play a significant role in the lives of Grizzlies players, coaches and basketball operations staff, will be heading over to the Salvation Army (696 Jackson Ave Memphis 38105) on Sunday, November 18 at 5:30 p.m. to serve dinner to guests of the Salvation Army. This marks the fourth year the Lady Bears have provided Thanksgiving dinners for the women and children at the Salvation Army. After dinner, the ladies will distribute gift bags to the guests.

On Tuesday, November 20 at 3 p.m. Randolph will once again provide and distribute Thanksgiving food baskets to 500 families at Booker T. Washington High School (715 S. Lauderdale St. Memphis 38126).

The team’s Season of Giving will continue as the Grizz Grannies and Grandpas join MIFA in their Meals on Wheels program Wednesday, November 21 from 9:30-12 p.m. to deliver dinner to Memphians and families in need for the Thanksgiving holiday. Later that day, Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay will be at The Pursuit of God Power Center (3171 Signal St. Memphis 38127) at 5:30 p.m. to distribute Thanksgiving food baskets to 400 families. The families, selected by the church, will come from the Frayser High School community.

Throughout the Season of Giving the Grizzlies will also partner up with St. Jude for “St. Jude Thanks and Giving.” “Thanks and Giving” will provide tickets and recognize one St. Jude family at each home game occurring between November 23 and December 21.

The Grizzlies Season of Giving will continue throughout the holiday season with the Grizzlies Annual Toy Drive, player shopping sprees, player appearances at local hospitals and coat drives throughout December. More information on these events will be announced at a later date.
