Grizzlies announce new menu offerings at FedExForum
Arena set to debut food options from nationally-acclaimed Chef Kelly English
MEMPHIS, October 30, 2013 – FedExForum and the Memphis Grizzlies announced today new menu offerings and partnerships with several local Memphis restaurants and food vendors, bringing fans the beloved tastes of Memphis into the arena for the 2013-14 basketball and event seasons.
“FedExForum is extremely pleased to be able to bring such a strong and diverse local flavor to our fans and patrons this year at every level of the arena. We’ve expanded our menus and brought new tastes and options into the arena,” said COO Jason Wexler.
Fans will be able to experience the tastes of culinary expert Kelly English (Restaurant Iris) and famed restaurateurs John Vergos and his family (Rendezvous), along with other up-and-coming vendors new to FedExForum.
Kelly English joins FedExForum as the Head Chef of the Lexus Lounge. English’s passion for food led him to open his first establishment, Restaurant Iris, in 2008, which quickly earned him the title of “Best New Chef” of 2009 in Food & Wine magazine. In 2010 he was a James Beard Award Semifinalist for Best Chef: Southeast and appeared on the Food Network’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate,” as well as in several national publications, including Bon Appetit, Food & Wine and Everyday with Rachel Ray.
Locally, English was awarded the Memphis Restaurant Association’s “Restaurateur of the Year” in 2010. English and Restaurant Iris have since been awarded Memphis’ “Best Restaurant”, “Best Chef” and “Best Services” four years in a row by Memphis magazine readers, in addition to a five-year run as Memphis’ “Best Restaurant” and “Best Chef” by the Memphis Flyer. His second restaurant The Second Line, set to open in the fall, will offer a more casual setting with traditional New Orleans’ favorites like po’boys, seafood plates and roasted meats.
English’s commitment to his southern roots will be featured in the SOUL KITCHEN at Crossroads stand in section 104. The SOUL KITCHEN will feature hits from The Second Line including English’s signature po’boys. The po’boys will also be sold in the Terrace Level at section 210. (Both Lexus Lounge and Crossroads concessions by Kelly English will be available in FedExForum beginning Nov. 13.)
Michael Stanley joins the FedExForum family serving as the new Head Chef of Levy Restaurants. Stanley, a Memphis native, made his way through the all-scratch kitchens at Ronnie Grisanti’s before opening Café 1912 in Memphis. After 16 years in the culinary business, honing in on his skills as a caterer, he returned to culinary school where he finished at the top of his class. Before joining FedExForum, he was the Executive Chef at Rhodes College.
Stanley and Levy Restaurants will bring new menus to FedExForum at various stands throughout the arena. Their menus will include a new SOUL KITCHEN menu at Crossroads (section 104), providing fans with comfort foods like shrimp & grits, chicken & waffles and other Southern-style staples. The Up Tempo Grill and the 4/4 Grill on the First Tennessee Club Level will offer fans options outside of a traditional cheeseburger with the Thai Chile Burger and the Fried Chicken Thigh sandwich, while The State Fair (section 114) stand will satisfy those with a sweet tooth with the ultimate in “fair food’ – the Fried Double Twinkie. Stanley and Levy Restaurants also provide full catering services exclusive to FedExForum special events.
John Vergos and the Rendezvous family will continue their service throughout FedExForum, but will expand their First Tennessee Club Level location. In addition to arena favorites like barbecue nachos and sausage and cheese plates, the Club level offerings will also include Rendezvous world-famous beef brisket and potato salad, giving fans an even greater taste of the Rendezvous.
Also new to FedExForum is Sleddog’s, vendor of the hot dogs at local-favorite restaurant Chiwawa. Sleddog’s will be available in section 232 of the Terrace Level and will bring their famed beef corndogs, or “Sleddogs” in regular and foot-long sizes on-a-stick. They will also serve teriyaki chicken on-a-stick, buffalo chicken on-a-stick and fried mozzarella cheese on-a-stick. Sleddog’s will introduce quesadillas into FedExForum with variations including chicken bacon ranch, chicken fajita, chicken & cheese, steak fajita, Philly steak or cheese.
Traditional arena treats like ice cream and popcorn will have a new twist as YoLo and The Popcorn Vault, both local to Memphis, join FedExForum. The Popcorn Vault will offer gourmet popcorn, popped and flavored on the spot, in mouth-watering, non-butter flavors like Caramel and Strawberry in section 107 of the Plaza Level. Memphis’ original yogurt shop, YoLo, will carry its signature soft-serve yogurt in section 103A of the Plaza Level and section 202 of the Terrace Level. Fans can choose from chocolate or vanilla yogurt in regular and large sizes. Each serving includes one of YoLo’s toppings, featuring products from local farmers, bakers and vendors in the tri-state area.Jet’s Pizza will be featured in two sections of FedExForum in addition to its three franchises within the Greater-Memphis area. With a slogan that says “Life is short. Eat better pizza,” fans can expect more-than-quality pizza with Jet’s signature, square deep-dish pizza in Section 109 in the Plaza Level and Section 207 in the Terrace Level.
“We’re featuring local vendors in the arena because we want our fans to feel like they can get the most out of their FedExForum experience. Fans can get to an event early and still able to eat dinner at their favorite local spot. We’re always looking for ways to enhance the experience at FedExForum, so it’s only natural to feature Memphis favorites,” said Vice President of Arena Operations Eric Granger.
