Grizzlies and City of Memphis celebrate 2013 Playoff run

MEMPHIS, April 12, 2013 – It’s time to Believe, Memphis! The Grizzlies are back in the Playoffs for the third consecutive year, and the City of Memphis and the local business community are joining its team in “painting the town blue and gold.” Many local landmarks will support the Grizzlies in unique ways throughout the postseason, while the Grizzlies will be all around the community as Grizz fever spreads in the Bluff City.

Elvis Presley’s Graceland will celebrate the Grizzlies and their success in reaching the 2013 NBA Playoffs by illuminating the exterior of the famous Memphis landmark in Beale Street Blue and Grizzlies Gold starting Wednesday, April 17 throughout the team’s NBA Playoff run.

The First Tennessee Bank building in downtown Memphis will do its part by spelling out “Go Grizz” on the exterior of the iconic skyscraper in the heart of the city. At the Memphis Zoo, giant gold headbands will be worn by the “Avenue of Animals” concrete statues outside the main gates.  Starting Wednesday, April 17, the Orpheum Theatre will support the Grizzlies by lighting up their marquee with Believe, Memphis!

Leading up to the playoffs, presented by Memphis Toyota Dealers and First Tennessee Bank, the Memphis Grizzlies would also like to invite fans to several events to celebrate the most successful regular season in franchise history. On Monday, April 15 the Grizzlies will partner with Downtown Memphis Commission to host a Playoff Pep Rally from 11:45 a.m. – 1 p.m. Grizz, the Grizz Girls, Grannies and Grandpas and the Claw Crew will all be on-hand to make an appearance at the event. This will also be the first opportunity for fans to get their playoff posters and headbands. Later that night, the Grizzlies will host a Pre-Playoff Watch Party, sponsored by Budweiser, at 7 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings (3770 Hacks Cross Rd, Memphis 38125) for the Grizzlies matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.

As the Memphis Grizzlies make their final push and head into the postseason, the team will pay tribute to all members of Grizz Nation when the Grizzlies host Fan Appreciation Night presented by First Tennessee, during the final regular season home game on Wednesday, April 17 against the Utah Jazz. The night will start at 5:30 p.m., when Grizzlies fans are invited to a Plaza Party at the Outdoor Plaza of FedExForum, featuring Grizzlies inflatables, face painters, balloon artists and musical entertainment. As part of Fan Appreciation Night, the first 5,000 fans in attendance to the game against the Jazz will receive a Grizzlies T-shirt, courtesy of First Tennessee.

On Thursday, April 18, Memphis Grizzlies forward Quincy Pondexter will make a special appearance at the Peabody Hotel by serving as Honorary Duck Master at 5 p.m. Later, Grizz, the Grizz Girls and the Claw Crew will be on-hand at the Peabody Rooftop Party to give out playoff posters and headbands beginning at 7:30 p.m.

To close out the week, the Grizzlies will host a FedEx Playoff Swag Pickup, presented by FedEx, from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Fans will be able to pick up playoff posters, headbands and car flags. The event will also feature inflatables and other entertainment throughout the day with Grizz, the Grizz Girls and the Claw Crew. Beginning Thursday, April 18, fans who want to receive a playoff poster can do so at any of the following Memphis Grizzlies partners: Grizzlies Den at FedExForum, City Gear, Chick-fil-A and all First Tennessee Banks. Fans can also pick up playoff car flags at all area Sonic Drive-Ins and Toyota Dealers.

While Memphis institutions are celebrating the Grizzlies’ run in the 2013 Playoffs, fans are also encouraged to join in and support Grizz Nation through the “Believe Memphis” photo contest beginning Monday, April 15.  As part of the “Believe Memphis” photo contest, fans can present their best Beale Street Blue and Grizzlies Gold attire by submitting photos on Grizzlies.com to share with all Grizzlies fans.  Memphis-area fans who share photos will be eligible to win a pair of tickets to a Grizzlies home playoff game. Photos can be submitted at Grizzlies.com, on the Grizzlies Facebook page via the “Believe Memphis” tab or by following @memgrizz on Twitter and tweeting a photo along with the hashtag: #BelieveMemphis.
