Grizzlies to host Staxtacular 2011 March 18
MEMPHIS, February 22, 2011— Throughout the entire year, the Grizzlies and Stax Music Academy have celebrated their 10th Anniversaries, so when they get together for Staxtacular 2011 on Friday, March 18, expect the biggest soul shakin’ party of the decade to take place at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. Staxtacular 2011 is presented by SunTrust Bank.
Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph and Mike Conley will make their return to the Stax Museum, and this year will be joined by Marc Gasol to host an evening that stands out for its colorful cast of characters. Along with the entire Grizzlies team, celebrities expected to attend Staxtacular 2011 include 2011 Grammy winner and Soulsville CEO Kirk Whalum, original Stax Records recording artist David Porter, Grizzlies coaches and many more.
Now in its seventh year, Staxtacular 2011 will feature the opportunity to bid on NBA memorabilia, travel packages, original artwork and once-in-a-lifetime experiences in live and silent auctions. This year, party goers who want to get a head start on bidding may access many of the unique items on the auction block early in Staxtacular’s first-ever Online Auction. Beginning March 1 at 7 a.m., auction items will either be sold during the online auction or will begin accepting bids, which will then be carried over to the live event. To view the auction items, visit biddingforgood.com.
Party goers will have the chance to dine on gourmet cuisine, enjoy an open bar featuring “Staxtinis” and Boscos Beer, and pay tribute to the soul tunes of yesteryear. Local soul-music favorites, The Bo-Keys, with original members Skip Pitts, Ben Cauley and Howard Grimes, will also be on hand to perform live for the crowd.
All proceeds from Staxtacular 2011 benefit the Stax Music Academy. The Academy provides mentoring, music education and exciting performance opportunities designed to enhance students’ music abilities and academic leadership skills.
Doors for the event open at 7 p.m. Tickets for Staxtacular 2011 are only $150 per person, and All-Star packages, which include 12 tickets and name recognition on the event program, website and during the event, are $1,500. To purchase tickets, call (901) 261-6385 or visit staxtacular.com.
