Grizzlies Go Green Week, April 8-13

MEMPHIS, April 3, 2013 — As part of the NBA’s Fifth Annual Green Week, which will take place April 8-13 this year, the Memphis Grizzlies are hosting Grizzlies Go Green Night presented by International Paper on Saturday, April 13 when they tip-off against the Los Angeles Clippers at 7 p.m. Associate sponsors include Coors Light and Stryker Orthopaedics.

In conjunction with Memphis’ part in NBA Green Week, prior to the game on Saturday, the Grizzlies will take part in the Wolf River Greenway Clean Up (6325 Humphreys Blvd. Memphis, 38120) on Monday, April 8 at 3 p.m. Grizzlies’ players Darrell Arthur, Tony Wroten and members of The Lady Bears will volunteer alongside students from Lausanne Collegiate School, Wolf River Conservancy personnel and Grizzlies’ staff members to remove litter along the greenway. Media is invited to attend.

The Grizzlies’ organization will also take part in painting The Green Machine at General Plumbing (3104 Broad Ave. Memphis, 38112) on Wednesday, April 10 at 12 p.m. Working with the University of Memphis, Grizzlies staff will help paint the Grizzlies logo and colorful murals on to the farmer’s market on wheels. Members of the public are invited out to take part in the fun.

On game day, fans are encouraged to participate in the Fifth Annual Tour de Grizz, presented by New Belgium Brewing, for a police-escorted bike ride departing at 5 p.m. from the Memphis Zoo to FedExForum to cheer on the Grizzlies. Packages start at $30 and include a ticket to that night’s game, admission to the Memphis Zoo the entire day of April 13 and a Tour de Grizz souvenir item to commemorate the event. Packages may also be purchased for $60 and include a First Tennessee Club Level ticket to the game, zoo admission and souvenir item. Spaces are available for individuals by calling (901) 205-1460. Based on past events day of sales are not anticipated.

Also among the evening’s other festivities is the “Grizzlies Go Green Expo,” presented by International Paper. Starting at 5 p.m. on the FedExForum Plaza, fans will have the opportunity to learn how to live greener, thanks to volunteers from Memphis and Mid-South non-profit groups that focus on sustainability. There will also be special “Green Tips” shown during the game to educate fans and a special in-arena recycling collection with special International Paper recycling receptacles located on the concourse at each section. Also, Levy Restaurants will be using International Paper’s ecotainer, a special plant-based biodegradable product, to serve fans.

Associate Sponsor Coors Light has always been at the forefront of recycling in the beverage industry. To help further promote awareness of the importance of recycling, Coors Light will be offering fans a complimentary Grizzlies koozie, made 100% from recycled materials, with the purchase of a Coors Light product. The NBA continues to work closely with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to be more environmentally friendly and maximize green business opportunities, savings and integration across the league. Over the past few years, the NBA has collectively made significant environmental improvements to its operations and marquee events. During the 2013 NBA Green Week, teams and players throughout the league are encouraged to participate in hands-on community service projects, recycling programs, green giveaways and promotions to support greener lifestyles.
