Key Stat of the Night

  • Led by Ryan Anderson (22 points) and Jason Smith (16 points), the Hornets’ bench outscored the Grizzlies’ reserves 51-30… Anderson, whose 13 shot attempts all came from beyond the arc, made seven threes, the most against the Grizzlies since Toney Douglas made nine on March 17, 2010 at New York.

Key Run of the Night

  • With the Hornets leading by one (77-76) with 5:08 remaining in the fourth quarter, New Orleans went on a 12-2 run to secure an 11-point lead with 1:44 remaining in regulation… The game featured 17 lead changes and 16 ties.

Player Notes

  • Zach Randolph regained his NBA lead in double-doubles (28) with 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, his sixth 20-point/10-rebound game of the season.
  • Jerryd Bayless scored 14 points and a team-high five assists off the bench, his third consecutive 10-plus point game… Bayless is averaging 11.7 points over the last three contests.
  • Marc Gasol recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds… The Grizzlies are now 5-1 when Gasol registers a double-double.

Cold shooting and a rough fourth quarter doomed the Grizzlies in a 91-83 home loss to the Hornets. Zach Randolph posted a strong line of 20 points and 13 rebounds, but Memphis could not overcome a 36 percent shooting effort and an early ankle sprain to guard Mike Conley.

Zach Randolph continues to lead the league in double-doubles, recording 26 through his first 38 games of the season while averaging 16.2 points and 11.6 rebounds. Including the 2012-13 campaign, Z-Bo has averaged a double-double in seven of his 12 NBA seasons. The first overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Anthony Davis has notched seven double-doubles this season, and three in his last six games. The rookie is averaging 13.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in his first season in the league. The game could be decided by the post play of the veteran and rookie big men.

Postgame Quotes

Coach Hollins

On Hornet’s length

"They were long. The offensive rebounds, they had 14 of them because of their length. Then the two big guys started hitting threes. They did a job inside by blocking shots [and] keeping us off balance with playing zone and man-to-man. We just didn’t push the ball up the floor. We got into their pace. We played slower. We scored 83 points. We shot 36 percent, and they were 9-for-20 for threes. That was a huge difference."

On Rudy Gay

"Just taking too many jump shots, we got to attack the basket. Wasn’t just him but in that first quarter when he had the chance, we just took a lot of jump shots. Took a lot of jump shots and we stopped making them. Then it became a difficult night for us."

On Zach Randolph

He was struggling, defensively. I mean we needed to get some stops and I started playing offense [to] defense at the end, but I did play Z-Bo. Z-Bo played 34 minutes. Sometimes you got to make some decisions, but we gave up a couple of offensive rebounds and then the kid made a couple of shots on them. So I was trying to go smaller and see if we could close the gap with that group, and we didn’t do it either. So we didn’t do anything defensively to warrant us getting back into the game and have a chance to win. We were down 72-73, and they got a three point play so it goes up to 75-72 and then we never got it. Then it went right quick to 78-81 and we never got back into it."

On Mike Conley

"He will probably play tomorrow night but there’s no real word."
