Memphis won wire-to-wire to clinch home court in its first-round postseason series with the Clippers by holding Orlando to .353 shooting (12-of-34 FG) in the first half… Memphis’ defense allowed the Grizzlies to build a 24-point lead by halftime.
Key Run of the Night
Memphis blew the game open early with a 19-3 run to put the Grizzlies up by 18 points (27-9) at the end of the first quarter… In the final three quarters, the Grizzlies led by as many as 26 points while the Magic would get no closer than seven.
Player Notes
- Zach Randolph made his first start since March 25 vs. LA Clippers and finished with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.
- Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with a game-high 22 points and six rebounds, marking his first 20-point game since March 22 at Portland.
The Grizzlies scored the first eight points of the game against the Magic on Thursday and never looked back en route to their 11th consecutive home win, an 88-76 victory, which secured home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs against the Clippers. Marc Gasol scored 22 points and Rudy Gay added 20.

On gaining home court advantage:
“It’s a big accomplishment from a historical perspective. I told the players it means nothing except that we get the first two games at home. If there is a seventh game, we get to play it at home. We have to go play, and we have to go out and win. We can’t think, because we have the home court advantage, that everything is a done deal. The Clippers are a good road team, and I believe it will be a good series.”
On the game:
“Once they got up and saw that Orlando didn’t have enough fire power, our guys relaxed a little. In the third quarter, we could barely make a shot. At the end of the third, we opened the lead back up and we kept it at a large win until we settled it at the end.”
On the Clippers:
“The reality is that you have to throw out the regular season because it is a new season. Whatever you accomplished doesn’t matter. I think the series will be tit-for-tat.”
On the playoffs:
“The key is to play better than your opponent. There is never a perfect game or a perfect team. We have executed very well during the season and have defended very well during the season at times. We have to be consistent. When we move the ball and attack the basket, we put ourselves in good opportunity. I am not looking for a particular improvement; I am just looking for our team to be consistent. Once we get a win, we make adjustments and see what we can do better the next night. Our team year-long has been confident. Believing we are a good team is what translates into winning a series.”

On the Clippers:
“They (Chris Paul and Blake Griffin) got good connections. Paul will try to throw it to the rim all the time and play pick and roll. So we have to control the lob and control the pick and roll.”
On the playoffs:
“Everybody is 0-0 now so you just have to go the first game of the playoffs and get the win.”

On the playoffs:
“We trained so hard for it. It is an opportunity to play against the best. The biggest stage in the NBA, and we are excited for it. We are ready to go.”
On the Clippers:
“It is going to be exciting. Both teams are very good, they are very talented, very deep teams. Both teams are going to compete and that’s what we love about this game. It is going to be exciting, the atmosphere is going to be great and we are looking forward to it.”
On home court advantage:
“It is a great feeling. I think it is a great achievement too to have home court advantage because that is something we saw was evident last season when we played Oklahoma City. How game 7 went down there, we felt like if that was at home it could have been a different story. We understand how big home court can be for you and so we are off to a good start.”

“Mission accomplished. First term goal set. Obviously there is plenty of more work to be done but it is what we set out to do.”
On everything the team has overcome:
“Playing hard, playing together. That sense of urgency to move up in that winning column. It shows a lot of character with this group of guys. Considering the fact last year Rudy (Gay) went down, this year Zach (Randolph) went down, came back full strength. Like I said it is still a work in progress but mission accomplished.”
