Coach Hollins

On the Game:

“It was a hard fought win. It was grit and grind. We battled, we fought, and we started off really well executing and then the Nets went to the zone. We couldn’t guard them for a stretch and they took the lead on us. We just kept battling and battling, until we could find something that we could do. We threw the ball down into the post. The Nets had small guys in the wrong spots at the wrong times. The whole group did really well and I have to commend them for sucking it up tonight. We arrived here at three in the morning and then we have to turn around and play a team that needed to win at home and we came out with a win. We have to understand that this is our job. Everybody has to do
back-to- backs. The media makes so much of back-to-backs that the players buy into it also.”

Marreese Speights

On the team working hard:

“It pays off, sometimes you don’t want to do it, but you have to do it and it will pay off in games like this. I’m going to keep working hard every day. We just have to go into every game the same and not think differently. Just go out and play hard.”

Rudy Gay

On the game:

“We just stuck with our defensive scheme. The Nets went into the zone and it messed us up, which forced us into bad shots. The Nets are a very capable team. They made some good runs and we were fortunate to make the last run. Marreese (Speights) played really well for us. He was hitting it hard on the glass and he can also knock down shots when we need it. That’s why he’s here and we needed it. Tony (Allen) was really playing well also, he goes out there and he forces us to compete. We feel we have shooters on this team. If we have a shot we are going to take it, and we have a good chance we are going to make it. We try to get the ball in the paint and then in the basket.”

Mike Conley

On the game:

“I think we finally figured out a couple of plays to penetrate the Nets’ zone. We were settling too much in the beginning of the game from the outside. We weren’t able to get the ball into the paint, but in the second half we got into the paint and we had some free throws. I think the starting unit has done better. When we lose games, it is because we tend to start off slow. Tonight, the point of emphasis was to come out with a lot of energy and get some easy looks early.”
