Coach Hollins to host Bike Buddies Extravaganza

Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins hosted his Third Annual Bike Buddies Extravaganza, a Lionel Hollins Charities event, at the Liberty Bowl Stadium in the Pipken Building on Sunday, Dec. 16.

Coach Hollins and his family distributed 130 bikes, along with bike helmets, provided by Greater Memphis Greenline, locks and a reading book, donated by Books from Birth and Barnes & Noble, to area children from ages 5-9 years old in need from Youth Visions, Repairing the Breach, St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Healthy Kids & Teens, First Works, Jacob’s Well, Boys & Girls Club of Memphis, Memphis District Laymen Ministry, So Give and Refugee Empowerment. 

During the Bike Buddies Extravaganza, young participants enjoyed face painting, balloon art, holiday ornament decorations and arts and crafts provided by Michael’s in addition to hot dogs, chips and drinks, provided by Wal-Mart. Coach Hollins hosted a reading station and the local police and fire departments will be on hand to talk about fire safety and stranger danger.

Lionel Hollins Charities (LHC) is a channel that provides resources and meaningful relationships to inner-city students and their families. Bike Buddies Extravaganza was created to help reduce childhood obesity by encouraging children and families to participate in outdoor activities.
