Mike Miller, Darko Milicic, Kyle Lowry, Mike Conley and Stromile Swift to assist children with drawings to create blueprint for new community playground.

Memphis, December 4, 2007 — The Memphis Grizzlies have teamed up with NBA Cares, the Early Childhood & Family Learning Foundation, and organizers from KaBOOM! to host a Design Day for children at James Singleton Charter School on Dec. 6 in New Orleans.

Following Thursday’s practice in Crescent City, Grizzlies guard/forward Mike Miller, forward/center Darko Milicic, guard Kyle Lowry, guard Mike Conley and forward/center Stromile Swift will join the children in putting crayon to paper and draw their dream playgrounds, which will ultimately became a reality. The Grizzlies will face the New Orleans Hornets on Dec. 7 at New Orleans Arena at 7:00 p.m. (CT).

“It’s always good to be a part of. I think it’s something that anyone who has had an opportunity to see what New Orleans was in the past would want to help restore the community,” said Miller. “I’m proud to be a part in the rebuilding process.”

Elements from the children’s drawings will be incorporated into the final design for the new community playground to be built on Feb. 15 at The Early Childhood & Family Learning Foundation with adidas. Design Day will also be the first meeting of the playground planning committee that will work for the next ten weeks to plan and prepare for the construction of the new playground.

NBA Cares

On Oct. 31, 2007, the NBA announced a league-wide, season-long effort to support the on-going rebuilding of New Orleans. NBA Cares outreach in the Crescent City will feature all members of the NBA Family, including players, teams, the National Basketball Players Association, and all of the NBA’s media and marketing partners during the 2007-08 NBA season. Together, members of the NBA Family will perform more than 30,000 hours of hands-on community service as all visiting NBA teams will participate in community activities when they travel to New Orleans to take on the Hornets during the regular season. In addition, the first NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service will be held on Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, when over 2,500 members of the NBA family will take part in a variety of service projects throughout the city.
