Zach Randolph at 2013 All-Star Weekend in Houston
Whether watching on TV from Memphis or live in Houston, if you saw Zach Randolph, you probably saw him with the trademark grin Grizzlies fans have come to know well.
Zach had reason to smile. He trekked to Houston last weekend to make his second career NBA All-Star appearance and serve as ambassador for Grizzlies organization and the city of Memphis.
A popular and prolific figure during All-Star Weekend, “Z-Bo” represented his team and city in many different ways. He made appearances on several national radio shows as well as The BS Report with Bill Simmons, lended a hand to fellow All-Stars Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker – as well as NBA greats Dikembe Mutombo and Yao Ming – at the NBA Day of Service, and signed autographs for crowds of fans at various stops. Wherever he went, his family usually wasn’t far behind.
Zach posted six points and five rebounds in 13 minutes over two stints of playing time during the All-Star Game, a 143-138 West triumph over the East, and made public after the game that as special as his second All-Star selection was, the Grizzlies’ stretch run ahead was the primary goal.
True to form, in Memphis’ first game after the break, Zach posted his 31st double-double of the season in leading the Grizzlies to a fourth consecutive victory, a 105-91 rout of the Detroit Pistons. The only multiple-time All-Star in franchise history, Zach will look to make a third trip to the All-Star Game next season, hopefully following a long 2013 Playoffs run.
