Ross Wooden, our mild-mannered Grizzlies basketball media coordinator, is our official NBA All-Star weekend warrior charged with getting Marc Gasol from point A to point B and keeping Grizz Nation in the loop. He checks in today with his summary of the events leading up to tonight's game:
As proud as I am to be featured in grizzlies.com (and with such a flattering picture to boot!), the star of 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend has been the Grizzlies’ own Marc Gasol.
The first-time All-Star has done a fantastic job as an ambassador for the city of Memphis, his home country of Spain and the Memphis Grizzlies organization – the coaches, the players, the staff and, of course, the fans – this weekend in Orlando.
Leading up to Sunday night’s All-Star Game, Marc has been a highly-visible part of the weekend’s festivities and events, representing the Spanish National Team at the USA Basketball press conference and going through the media gauntlet at the NBA All-Star Circuit, where he made appearances on ESPN, ABC, NBA TV and SIRIUS/XM radio among others.
Memphis’ man in the middle on the court, Marc also “owned the paint” at the NBA Day of Service, refurbishing houses and re-sodding yards with Minnesota’s Kevin Love and Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge while mingling and signing autographs – and even getting involved in a 3-on-3 pickup game – with young fans in Tangelo Park.
The third All-Star in franchise history (Zach Randolph, Pau Gasol), Marc has been kind enough to allow me to indulge in my inner paparazzi and get some candid, behind-the-scenes shots throughout the proceedings, including his first All-Star practice yesterday at the Jam Session.
